1310 is basically a joke (poor poor reviews) 1330 is a champion and one of the biggest suprises of a notebook. the xps will have better everything seeing as the 1310 has mono speakers that should say enough XD

Really?....I just ordered a vostro 1310,and thought the review on this forum was pretty good.....I'll have to go searching for the bad ones now.

Basically the ability to get with XPP and being 800.00 cheaper was my reasoning for going with the vostro, plus the NBR review showed the performance equal or greater than the 1330.....as long as its portable, doesn't fall apart, doesn't overheat,I'll be happy given the cheap price.

Were those M1330 reviews carried out with a Penryn processor though?

    Alright mate it's simple.

if you have the money for the M1330 then get it why not its like 10X better and the vsotro 1310 is really a bit of a (budget) joke. if you cant afforded a 1330 then get it.

simple as that mate. plus you can get the red m1330 that looks kool and preforms just as good as it looks plus you look

They are closely matched, but the M1330 has more choices of parts than the 1310. Plus, you can get an LED screen with the M1330.

Wouldn't think so,presumably the benchmarks in the NBR review were compared to the M1330 from last year.

    X2P.....I can't find a poor,poor review of the 1310?......links?

There really isn't much difference.. The LED screen, for one, and the chassis, are the only obvious ones... I saw a 1310 the other day, which a friend bought... It looks good, doesn't flex anywhere except the screen, and the right palmrest(the 1330 does too)..and doesn't have those horrible silver bumpers at the side.
Plus, at default clocks, it seems to score much higher in 3dMark06. I can't confirm that, since the one I saw had onboard graphics.

It does look much thicker, though. Kind of chunky.

My summer break is on, so I don't know whether I can get it again in th next two months, but if I do, I will take some pics of the two alongside...

The cons in the NBR review say it all # Chassis plastics feel too thin and hollow
    # Mono speaker is painfully weak
    # Uncomfortable touchpad buttons
    # No S-video or HDMI port
    # Price as configured is a little expensive compared to the XPS M1330

there is a good point right there but mono speakers even my game boy pocket runs stero speakers!

I haven't ever used the S-Video out on a laptop... As for HDMI, that's what we have our desktops for.. An ultraportable isn't really good enough for a primary computer.. How long can you stare at a 13.3" screen anyway?

And who uses laptop speakers? The 1330 speakers may be stereo for all I care.. Listening to them makes me think I have tinnitus.. They are only good for chimes and stuff.. I don't see the price as higher, though, while configuring..

Listening to music on laptop speakers is like every song was made my STOMP, or the Blue Man Group.

Cripes....your obviously struggling to find one of these poor, poor reviews......just like I did,I'm aware of the points you raised about the NBR review and none of them are really an issue for me as its just a portable hack, that won't be getting used for any dance party's soon.

I agree, that the M1330 is nicer, and has better options like the LED screen [except for only having 2 USB ports....the Vostro has 4],its just not $800 better that it costs extra in my part of the world [asia pacific]for the same spec........ and since they have the same performance,I'll take the cheaper "poor mans XPS" option,my opinion is based purely on price difference where I live, and if the prices were closer and I didn't have to preconfigure it with MS's uberbloat.....I would get the 1330.

I don't really understand your obsessiveness with cruddy notebook speakers,or getting huffy and puffy and slightly e-peenish over a 13" toy........but hey.....whatever blows ya hair back I suppose.

I've read quite a bit of Vostro 1310 reviews (more than 15), and literally came across NO poor reviews at all. The verdict of most reviews deemed the Vostro 1310 an excellent alternative for the budget-minded.

True it has mono speakers, but NOBODY I've ever talked to in my entire life cared about the quality of speakers on a laptop.

The real difference, in my opinion, is the LED screen that's available on M1330s. For the extra $150 you'll shave off some thickness and weight (don't really care about the color quality as you won't really be able to tell the difference unless you stare hard and try).

If you can afford to drop $1500-2000, you should get the Xps.
If you have a budget in mind (no more than $1000), the Vostro is a great choice.
