Hi, I just install a WD Scorpio 320gb on my laptop (vostro1700) and I found that it vibrates a lot, compare with previous seagate momentus 5400.3 160gb.
I noticed it, for example, cloning them, and touching with the hand. Seagate hasn´t any vibration, but Scorpio 320gb is very apreciable.
Once installed on laptop, I notice in the area how HD rotates...

have WD scorpio´s more vibrations that seagate momentus? maybe a defective unit?

    thanks

Is it the 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

Scorpios tend to have more vibration than Seagates yes, but less than Hitachi's.

You could insert some form of padding, such as a soft rubber...

    hi. It´s 5400rpm.
I checked on the hand a seagate 160gb 7200rpm (momentus) and it had less vibrations that wd 5400.
I think that isn´t normal. I notice how vibrates on the palmrest of my laptop.
    thanks

The WD 3200BEVT seems to have a bit of a rep when it comes to heat. I did not know about vibrations yet but i would not be surprised.

I would check the mounts and make sure that they aren't loose at all. A small rubber bump-stop or something similar would be useful if the drive directly contacted the mounts / cage / chassis anywhere. Just be careful that you don't compromise the drives ability to cool itself in any way.

thanks to all... it´s secured (it´s mounted in a caddy on my vostro 1700). I can´t see mode to install rubber on it. I think that during shipping, it could be damage since was sent on a papper letter with bubbles (no box).
It seems how if it spinning de-equilibrated.

I don´t think that it is normal... since a 7200rpm vibrates less¡¡¡¡ and on reviews, this hard drive is know for silence and vibration free.

    thanks

Yeah Storagereview also rates it as quiet. There might be something wrong with yours.
