I've read countless threads on the subject,I've heard it from other computers, and always counted myself lucky that I never had it. I've had this particular M1210 for just over a year, and its got it, its not constant, its not the fan, and its irritatting as all get out. Sometimes its slight, sometimes its clearly prominent with a loud movie or music playing, I was watching an episode of house on deman earlier, and it was horribbly distracting, I havent heard it for about 45 minutes now, aside from a replacement and getting lucky, theres nothing else I can really do about it correct?....arrgghhh...its back.....

Another quick question, is it fairly common for a notebook to develop it ,say after a year?, as I've never heard it before till this morning, and the machine has gotten a lot of use in the past year, I know would have noticed it.

That was an ordeal, after hours of speaking to many reps, with one in particular that had no desire whatsoever to help, my computer which as far asI know should be under warranty, isnt anymore. They cant issue a replacement, and they cant extend my waaranty, intially they finally offerd me $100 to my CC to help cover out of warranty repair, I then replied that was unacceptable, as in general the soultion to the problem is a repleacemnet motherboard, I was on a conference call with a CCSM and an XPS tech, the tech agreed with my assesment, and the CCSM then said the absolute best he could do is to send me a new board, and I could either install it myself or pay someone to do the job, its good enough for me, I can do the job, dont really want to, but all in all barring complication it should actually kinda fun. Its not a perfect solution, but it is acceptable, dells CS is for the most part still good in my opinion, they do have good agents that are willing to help, its just getting to them thats difficult. I always try and be polite, and it pays off, but one fellow I talked to when I was transfered to out of warranty repair almost made me lose total control, He would ask me a question, I would get two words out and then he would cut mke off, rattling the same thing over and over, " there is nothing we can do, our records indicate you are out of warranty and it will cost you $50 to "talk" about your issue, about 7 instances of that song and dance he asks about the problem, I explained the issue, he says, "your computer powers on? You should be happy and not complain about trivial issues", I ask to speak to his supervisor, "He's busy", I then replied "with agents like you I am somehow not surprised, can you arrange for him to call me withing a reasonable time frame?" He replied" I will MAKE him call you, but he will tell you the same thing and you will be wasting his time like you are wasting mine" my response after nearly biting my tounge in half was " Its obvious that you find doing your job is not worth your time, transfer me to someone who doesnt think doing their job is a waste of time, and dont @!@#@ing tell me what they will or will not do, I know your opinion on the matter, I care for it just slightly more than I care for you and your attitude, I will not drop this matter and simply go away." and much to my surprise, I was transfered, to a very helpful person, who couldnt solve the problem, but without any fuss, dug up every scrap of information he could, and gave it to his boss, and things got done.
