Does the Dell/Broadcom 1390 Wireless card (shipped with my Vostro 1500) support WPA2 encryption? I'm confused because Dell's 1390 product page *and* the Dell WLAN Utility's help files both refer to WPA2 support but it doesn't seem to work.
With my router (Dlink WBR-2310; firmware 1.04) set to WPA2-EAS mode, the Vostro's 1390 card does not authenticate. In WPA2-Auto-EAS mode (this is a mixed mode accepting both WPA and WPA2 clients), everything is fine.
I'm 95% certain the issue is on the receiving end at the Vostro and its Dell 1390 card because my other laptop with Intel's 3495 card connects just fine in the WPA2-EAS mode and the auto mode mentioned above.
By the way, I'm using XP and the latest Dell 1390 XP drivers I could find (version 4.100.15.5, March 2007).

Did you install the WPA2 fix for Windows XP SP2?

Intel cards never have any problems. Exchange the Dell card for Intel. If you tell them you have an issue, you might get the exchange for free as well! Why don't you give it a try?

Yes it is possible. I have the 1390 as well, connected to a Netgear WPN-824v2 using WPA2-AES.
Just throwing ideas - Access Control (MAC address filtering) gives this error if the computer is not "authorized". If it is, either turn it off or delete, and then re-add the computer from the access list.
Good luck.

it may have been the WPA2 patch that fixed this problem or just a router reset. either way, it works now

I have the Dell 1390 on my Latitude D820. The Dell wireless utility is not able to join the WPA network but the windows utility can. I even tried updating the software. So if I disable the dell utility, it works(uncheck 'Let this tool manage your wireless networks' option)

My Dell 1390 has been working with WPA2 for a while now. After a couple of resets of the router, getting the latest router firmware + the latest Dell utility and drivers, everything magically worked.
