So, the worst nightmare of any laptop owner became a reality for me this morning. While walking away from my desk I tripped on my Inspiron 1520's power cord (no jokes MacBook owners) and had the laptop fall off my desk, screen open, and snap the LCD clean off the computer.

It still works, (as I type this, the screen is comfortably resting against my desk lamp) but the hinges have been snapped off completely. It is technically not attached to the computer by anything other than the LCD connector cable.

Is there a good place to buy refurbished Dell LCD screen that would work with my laptop? I'd like to avoid sending it back to Dell to be repaired as I assume I would get charged an arm and a leg to repair it. My original warranty is expired unfortunately.

I'm going to try and get Mastercard to cover under my credit card's automatic "extended warranty" but I'm holding little hope.

    Thanks everyone!

Well, if just the hinges snapped off, then why not just buy the hinges instead of spending a few hundred bucks on a new screen. You can probably find the hinges or a dead Inspiron 1520 on eBay for parts.

Problem is the hinges didn't really snap... they more snapped directly off the LCD Screen. Nothing short of welding it back on well fix it I believe.
