Hey guys, my 1530 is coming in the next couple days and i've been waiting for quite a while now. My machine will be equipped with a WUXGA LCD screen. However, my wife has the XPS 1330 with an LED screen that looks very nice. However, her resolution is only 1280x800. I've heard so many negative things about WUXGA since I ordered it that it's making me wonder if eveything will be too tiny.

If I really don't like my WUXGA, do you think dell would send me an LED? If so, would i have to send in my system and wait even longer?

If you choose LED, then you will get LED. You have to choose LED type LCD while ordering. On the other hand, I'm not so sure there's a WUXGA LED. So most likely you purchased a CCFL LCD.

I didn't choose LED, there's no WUXGA LED option. What I'm asking is how difficult is it to get them to swap it out for the LED option if I don't like the WUXGA?

Woo, I dunno actually. They might want you to cancel within the 30 day period and reorder.

I didn't like my 1680x1050 because of some backlight problems and because I had regrets about not getting an LED when I ordered, so I called and told them I wanted an LED on my exchnge. The rep I spoke with got the OK from his supervisor, and I revieved the new system this morning. I don't like that the only LED option is for the low resolution 1440x900...but I love how bright it is.

If you do call in to get it changed, you need to call Customer Care. Tell them it is defective and unacceptable, and that you will not take another crappy screen and the only way they can make this right it by giving you the free upgrade to LED on your replacement system. If they say no, tell them you know they can do it, because you have seen it done before on these message boards. Ask for a supervisor if you have to. If it does not work, hang up and call again.

I did it on my first try, and it took less than 10 minutes. Be firm, but polite.

Cool, thanks for the response. Got my machine, WUXGA looks ok despite quite a bit of bleed at the bottom.

Did they send someone out to replace your screen or did you have to cancel your order and they sent you a whole new machine?

The way it works is, if you place an order and it has not shipped yet, you call in to CSR which transfers you to order modification where you get your order cancelled and replaced, which is a very simple process to change to LED. They recharge your card and refund you the previous amount.

If your system already shipped and you received yours already, then you have to return your system and replace a new order. Though if you are fine with it, you could technically hang onto it since you have a 21 day return period, so you can order an LED now and when it comes in, compare the two, then return your WUXGA provided you get your LED one before 21 days are up, which is very likely. That way, you get your LED and a full refund for your WUXGA as they pay for shipping. Plus you get a first hand comparison. :)
