After looking at this screen at the mall, I'm not sure I prefer it. Am I crazy? Maybe I'm just so used to my Powerbook's LCD. Have those of you that have them been happy with them and felt it was worth the extra $150? Thanks!

Did you get to look at the XGA screen?

To me, the UXGA is alot better than the XGA and is worth the price. I have the XGA, and something just doesn't feel right about it. Its very dull and difficult to edit photos b/c of the colors being off. I've thought about upgrading to the UXGA but it cost around $500 from Dell's spare parts.

I saw the UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™ on the XPS next to an XGA on a i6000.

I received my 9400 today and couldn't agree more. The standard XGA screen is mediocre. Poor contrast, dull colors, narrow viewing angles. I was thinking about sending this thing back to get the UXGA but its specs don't look much better. My Sony VAIO's XBrite screen (or whatever it's called) is *far* superior. I'm shocked Dell would put out such crap on an expensive machine.

On the positive side, the dual procs are nice and zippy. The 7800 GPU performs a little faster than the 6800 in my desktop machine (it seems to scale better and I'm not sure why).

    henador,

Congrats on the I9400...I might be buying one in a couple of months...but I just bought a I9300 last month. Let me know how you like it and what you don't like about it (besides the screen).

I have the UXGA screen on my 9300 and it's one of the best things about this laptop. My girlfriend's brother has an i6000 with the matte screen, and mine is SO much more full and vibrant in terms of color. I am absolutely satisfied with it. Fonts aren't small at all, and the resolution in perfect!

Hmm the WUXGA is 1920x1200 compared to 1440x980. It also has a dot pitch of .19 for the WUXGA compared to .21 for the XGA. To me that seems a lot better. Congrats on the new laptop though. Let us know of your impressions.

It sorta depends on which WUXGA screen your looking at as well,
The Samsung WUXGA True Life screen in my opinion is mediocre, washed out colors, some pretty bad light leakage. Apparantly the early LG Screen has similar issues.

Sharp screen is supposed to be better than those 2. My other WUXGA screen the LG WC222 is markedly better than the Samsung. Punchier colors, less sparkle, and practically no noticable light leakage.

I do however like the WSXGA+ Ultrasharp, it seemed like a fairly solid screen (and on a funny side note it was a Samsung)

Does anyone happen to know what the E1705's are shipping with right now? Samsun, LG, etc?

All the ones I listed were WUXGA, Dell uses multiple manufacturers for alot of there components

Ie. Multiple Monitors, keyboards, Hard Drives, probably RAM, Optical Drives etc

The WUXGA with truelife is made by Samsung and LG. Samsung seems to be the better though. I have the LG and have no problems with it.

Many people would disagree with your claim go check out Notebookforum or later on I'll post some side by sides. The Samsung may be better than the early LG but no way is it better than the LG WC222...

Well, that was the talk around here when the hype was about the truelife screen. I was just going off old data. It's more opinionated than thought of, so disregard my comment then. I have the LG and love it.

Edit: So has Dell released a new LG lcd for the E1705? I thought they have never changed lcds. Sorry, my mistake.
