Just got a 1558 in replacement for a 1525. I popped the back cover to install my upgraded Wifi, and add the WWAN and Bluetooth... No extra mini PCI slots for the BT or WWAN - There is a sticker that says WWAN but no connector or wires.... Since my 1525 has these options ( I did not buy the BT or WWAN card from Dell ) do i ask for another system that has these on-board? Is Dell obligated to provide one that is capable even though in their records i did not have BT or WWAN.

The BT card is on the other side of the board next to the ExpressCard interface. You have to take off alot more than the back panel. I have the stick-size 365 module, I don't know how a 370 would work

I don't recall if there was a connector on my 1558 for the WWAN, but I did see the sticker. I'll check when I get home tonight and post again. I did have the wires though for both WLAN and WWAN that run through the board and into the monitor.

I just looked again- I have 3 wires which are all for the wifi.. there is a blank spot next to the WWAN i thought that was for the BT. I guess its not - Ill ring dell and see what they say- I like using my WWAN for GPS and BT was connected to a keyboard, mouse.

Well I called Dell - After YELLING, ( all calmness was exhausted in the hour in chat) Im getting another replacement that includes the WWAN and BT.

This is a new low- Both the tech and manager treated me like a first grader that did not know where the WWAN slot was. They kept telling me to follow the instuctions online for installing the card. I told them there is no slot-They said "review the online manual again"..... WTH.... Im looking right at where the card goes there are holes in the board where the MINI PCI would be sodered.

Then the tech tells me that the WWAN actually goes in the express slot- Tells me to look just above the SD card reader- and im to insert the card there... What ....WHAT>>>>>

So I type in all caps... MANAGER NOW!!!!> So the manager calls me and i continue to argue with him about the absents of the slot. Then he says he is sending parts out. ..Motherboard and WWAN card... Dude I have the card, I ask what about the Antenna wires... Oh he says - You cant find them either? The tech will be able to locate them.... GUY they are not there.. I say.. Then i explain that i think my machine was built without WWAN Capability. Then the light bulb goes off in his head lighting up half of Bangalore. OH... We will send you another replacement .... WOW

Good work in getting a replacement. I'd really love to see how they hire these so called techies.

Getting a replacement is going to be a huge headache - it'll probably take longer than the first one did because you actually have a functioning (if underfeatured) machine in hand. That's been my experience with other companies, anyway.

that may be true= in fact it would not surprise me if it has to built from scratch. I looked through the outlet to get an idea what was out there and of the 100 or so 1558s none had WWAN ( all said in the options, NO WAN , So i assume that means they are not built up for it.. As it is working i dont care how long it takes- I can live without the WWAN for the time being..As this is my daughters machine and she is home for the summer anyway
