I have an Alienware M17x R4 and I have tried to install an eDP display, my laptop has the AMD Radeon PRO WX 7100 MXM GPU and the laptop is giving me video card/display fault message on boot which wont let me boot at all.

It appears it is only a WX 7100 issue, does anyone here with Dell workstation laptops with WX 7100 that have tried any eDP display with more than 60Hz refresh rate even on an overclock and had any success?

I am trying to figure out why it wont work whether it is a vBIOS issue or just the WX 7100 being incapable of giving out enough bandwidth to run 120Hz display through the Embedded DisplayPort.

if it helps, it seems like an AMD issue. The HD 7970M did the exact same thing when people tried 120hz display with the card.

There is precedent of the WX 7100 working on the R4 and the Ranger on eDP in the forums.

Yeah but they never state their display model or Refresh rate on them which is why I want to ask.

Really? Yeah majority of eDP displays are 60Hz, most new laptops have only eDP these days not LVDS and they are all 60Hz.

Oh sorry I stepped away without completing my post.

I meant to say that I didnt know that there was 60hz panels available for the R4 w/ eDP.

I assumed the Wx 7100 in the R4 was with the default panel for eDP use.
