the ultrasharp usually means it has better viewing angles and color.

That is probably just fancy names for 1) matte and 2) glossy screen. Glossy screens have more vivid and bright colors but also have plenty of reflections from nearby light sources. They have to be used indoors and never with a light source behind you or right beside you (i.e. in such a way that no direct reflections hit your eyes). Matte screens have slightly less vivid colors but very few reflections.

My advice: take a matte (1) screen if you plan to work on the laptop, and a glossy (2) if you will use it only for entertainment.

oh , i plan to work with the laptop because iam traveling alot, and of course the last thing i need is light effect on the screen .

so i guess i will go with 1 - 13.3 inch WXGA Anti-Glare Display ( the matte one), to ignore the light effect

thanks for the information and thanks novablade for the advice

Actually, HerrKaputt, glossy displays tend to be better outdoors. They have more glare for sure, but matte displays are not as bright.

    Here's a comparison photo:

Two very similar MacBooks, one on the left with glossy, and on the right with matte, both displaying the same image.

I personally tend to prefer glossy displays.

Hmmm I guess I said that because my E6400 has a matte screen with LED backlight. It can easily be used outdoors.

Ah, the LED would certainly do it.

I suppose in a direct side-by-side comparison between two otherwise identical displays (i.e. both LED or both CCFL), on the same systems and brightness settings, glossy will win, but it's more of a mixed bag if you add variables like that, comparing a matte LED to a glossy CCFL.

I would say the UltraSharp display with TrueLife is superior to the standard anti-glare (matte) display, yes.

Glossy is superior except in direct light. A glossy screen will reflect light back at you, turning your screen in an effective mirror. In general, there isn't a problem as long as you alter the lighting conditions (e.g. Close the curtains or reposition your laptop, etc.)

Exactly. I live in an 11th story dorm, and believe me, we get plenty of sunlight. I just angle my desk so that the window is off to the side rather than directly behind me, and I can see perfectly.

Glossy screens will not always give a better picture. In certain lighting conditions it will reflect light back like a mirror, making it very difficult to see whereas matte screens will not reflect and therefore be easy to read. As Chango99 said, it's really personal preference.

True, but this really only happens when the light source is directly behind you. I've found the glare on my glossy display to be very manageable.

Yeah, my experience with other people's laptops has been much the same, it is very rarely a problem. I just wanted to point out to the OP that it is not "always better", as he seemed to believe.
