Just wanted to get some opinions on waiting for the LED screens. I'm definitley getting a 1530, but I would really like the LED backlit screen. If it meant having to pay full price and missing out on the current deals I don't think its worth it.
Do you think they'll be out before the current deal expires?
Do you think they'll be offering any similar deals?
How much do you think the upgrade to a LED screen will be?
This forum has been extremely helpful to me by the way! Thanks

those are hard questions. no one can tell you for sure how much or when. but I can tell you that it will be expensive .. there are always a deal, but not always the one you want.. are you feeling lucky?...
if you don't mind waiting maybe you should.. -
Yeah, I realize nobody can give me a "for sure" answer, but I was wondering if others would risk missing the deal by waiting for them.
Dell can stop their deals at anytime right? -
They probably won't be as expensive as the m1330's original $300 since that was just a premium that dell wanted to charge for more profits..
But it won't be too cheap either since it is a 15 inch screen -
hmm i can guarentee that when the new screens are launched there will be no "deals" you'll be interested in
cause dell knows wut u w8ing ppl are w8ing for...they also know how to empty ur pocketbook

Well, you could always wait until the day before the current deals expire (01/31/08). Rebates on XPS' aren't common, but that seems to be changing. I suppose there will be another deal eventually, but as to when? No clue. Also, no idea about the price.
Edit: On a side note, I do believe Dell can cancel the rebates early if they so choose. -
there was a 200 usd gift card you could combine with the xps deals, thats almost 200 dollar off the current price, cuz you can sell the gift cards pretty good on ebay.

I'm thinking that today (12/31) may actually be a good day to purchase (without LED) if I can get a phone rep who wants to make a year end quota by offering a killer price.
The non-LED config I want already maxes out my budget, so perhaps I should just go for it today. -
Yeah, I was a little worried about waiting too. I'd decided that, despite my worry, I would wait it out until about the middle of January.
But, while I was browsing these forums someone posted a magazine code that gave me a GREAT deal so I decided to go ahead and choose the ccfl (that is the one that comes w/ it right now, right? lol) version because I didn't want them to cut the deal short and then miss out on it. -
-
Yes, the code was found on page 19 of the M1530 Owner's Lounge of this forum.
Code: dydwhjc
Just type it into dell search and it should come up with an xps. -
To save on cost, I stuck with 1GB of RAM and then purchased 4GB from Newegg. That's part of what made the deal so great. It didn't require that I had 3GB of RAM minimum.

I haven't done the install yet, because the system hasn't shipped, but I've done it before on other laptops. It's not difficult and theres a guide on youtube if you get confused:

Edit: There's a slight difference. Dell's memory is warrantied by Dell whereas the memory you purchase from Newegg will be warrantied by the company that manufactured it. -
Thanks for the YouTube link, Aderon. How simple. For some strange reason, NewEgg doesn't have the M1530 listed in their memory configurator
-
O yeah, here I'll show you the RAM I purchased:

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the RAM he's installing in the video, except for 4GB instead of 2GB. -
I'm waiting for the LED display also! Really hope that they will come out with processor upgrades and not-so-expensive additional displays in January.
The code Aderon posted is not bad but you can get a better deal with the $669 off which is going on now. Unfortunately in this case you can not downgrade the memory to 1G. -
Is the LED that big of a difference? -
I think the -$669 package is better if you're looking for the full package. A lot of things that were on that I didn't need (Bluetooth, 3GB RAM, Sound Blaster, the larger harddrives, the security software) so I was able to save a lot of money with the ability to downgrade them w/ the code package.

This should give you somewhat of an idea of the picture difference:
