Anybody have any updates?
It looks to be almost the same chassis as the current G3 3590, maybe a little thicker since it has 4 vents in the pictures?
This will likely be my next laptop purchase to replace both my current G3 as well as my secondary desktop.

It's now available for order in U.S, Canada and Australia's website.
Note that there are 2 system builds that could affect storage installation options as well as battery size options.
If you choose to hv a 2.5" storage bay, there won't be a 2nd M2 slot for further upgrades...
...the battery size will shrunk as well to 51whr.
If you opt for 2 M2 installation system, there will be a M2 slot soldered in replacement to the connection for 2.5" storage(HDD/SSD)...
...the battery size will be beefed up to 68whr.
Notice the difference between the 2? Here's a better focus...

I Just ordered the G5 SE with the
- AMD Ryzen™ 7 4800H Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Graphics
- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit English
- 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz
- 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
- 15.6 inch FHD(1920x1080) 300nits WVA Anti-Glare LED Backlit Display(non-touch), 144Hz refresh rate
- AMD Radeon™ RX 5600M
- Standard Backlight Keyboard.
Also it looks like in the tear down instruction they are using a previous gen system where it shows the battery with a 2.5"ssd you will notice on the spec sheet it only has 2x NVME:
that wouldn't be the first time I have seen them do that...
I should have mine June 15th -
If base on your screenshot that your order supports 2 NVME storage, you should get a clarification on your battery size such that you can get your battery upgradable to 68whr.
The pictures above i got it from the Service Manual page.

also looking at the 5500 (intel) Spec sheet its the intel version that has the Drive bay changes my guess is the 1650 has the 2.5" option the 1660 Doesn't if you look at the specs for the 5500 its basically 2 diffrent chassis:

I am looking forward to it as well. I'm hoping it is good one thing that worries me is apparently Per Hot Hardware(see snippet Below) Dell decided to use the USBC port in ALT Mode Meaning no USB over that port...im hoping they see the error in their ways and enable it as USBC is the future...we will see currently everything I have is either USB A ports or USBC on the device but came with 2 cables C to A and C to C. we will see what happens. either way this will be my Home driver my XPS will still be the Mobile computer I take everywhere. But if i need ethernet or gaming the G Series will come with me lol.
From Hot Hardware: A wide variety of ports flank both sides of the G5. On the left, we can find all sorts of ports. There's one each of Super Speed USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, HDMI 2.0, mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, charger input, and a USB Type-C connector. That USB Type-C connection only carries DisplayPort Alternate Mode video signals, not data. We do like the inclusion of a Type-A port, since so many brand new peripherals even today only come with the older form factor. Wired Ethernet is a good choice for online gaming, too. -
USB-C charging is still an exclusive attraction on INTEL system. Even non-executive or non-gaming makes still get that...

well my inspiron 7375 & my late 5485 (Sold it to make the budget work for this computer and the 5485 was worth more lol and the 7375 has a sentimental spot in my heart its the first 2in1 from dell i got with AMD all the way) 2in1 charged fine using USBC as long as they where not completely dead I only carry my 130W Acadaper for my XPS when traveling...and dells spec sheet for the 5505 does mention the usb c port is usb 3.2 gen 2 so i hope that means if they do have data turned off on it that they will turn it on at some point (Could have been an issue with the early test builds)

A-series? Had u missed out other business centered series as well? X,T,E AMD systems comes with USB-C charging as well...

I myself as a follower from the RED CAMP will certainly give my best to suggest whatever i have in mind, and i believe others will do the same, even if they're from the Blue Camp. However, to GENERAL knowledge of current product development, most will agree that USBC charging is one of the attraction in INTEL system more than AMD do.
Just in case you've missed, the 2 link i provided clearly shows the "bias" design between AMD and INTEL system of the same product of the same series of the same line.
*And incase if you've noticed, USBC charging is "common" in the business product range than GENERAL home product range. -

A quick search shows the following from dell with AMD and USB-C charging:
Inspiron 5585
Inspiron 5485
Inspiron 7405
So every AMD dell Inspiron.Last edited: May 24, 2020 -
perhaps a much easier way to identify which models from DELL supports USB-C charging... is by looking at charger's compatibility list...

I hope their website is wrong and in the R7 they are sending the fatter battery but it appears I'm getting the smaller one but can upgrade it at a later date in theory...
FEDEX get me my package lol...they still waiting on receiving the package...my guess is its still in transit from China/Taiwan or where ever its made lol...
Also funny its going to come from Chicago per FedEx and not the Lebanon(Nashville, TN) Facility like 99% of my new purchases do from Dell. -
As much as i wouldn't want to burst your bubble of anxiety and joy...
I've been monitoring on DELL N.America sites since their 1st day of product listings... nope, nada, no no option for battery upgrades. -
Even with a 51wh battery you'll still get at least 4 hours or more of battery life. -

I should have it Wednesday will be adding my intel 660P as a secondary drive after i tinker for a few mins lol...then in a few weeks will likely upgrade to 32GB 3200MHz from Crucial: BALLISTIX
DDR4 PC4-25600 • CL=16 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-3200 • 1.35V • 2048Meg x 64 •
I have Respect for that ram lol CL16 @ 3200MHz vs CL=22 for standard ram

EDIT: Dang...Looked on newegg sure enough it requires XMP to get up to speed so will have to check Bios to see if dell Supports XMP my guess will be a no they likely reserve that for Alienware. memory advertising is close to bait and switch in my opinion they should BE REQUIRED to call it what ever its native speed is 2667 MHz in this case then say XMP Profile 1 3200MHz so we know what we are buying.Last edited: Jun 2, 2020 -

Also, your DELL G5 15 5505 should come with 3200MhZ version (I don't think it runs overclocked to 3200MhZ, but comes from factory set to 3200MhZ).
Amazon.com does sell Crucial Balistix 32GB (2 x 16GB), 3200 MhZ SO-DIMM DDR-4 CL16 for $160 (which seems like a good price).
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ball...-dimm+ddr4+3200Mhz+cl16&qid=1591130123&sr=8-2
They also have 2 x 8GB version with same (CL16) latencies for $80, but seeing how the DELL already comes with 16GB, I don't think low latencies and same RAM size are worth the $80 (I'd personally just spend more on DOUBLE the RAM and low latencies instead when you're ready to upgrade).
I'm only mentioning lower latencies because the CPU/iGP would work a lot better with lower latencies than with much higher ones (then again, it also depends on which latencies you will get with your RAM).
Also, it might be worthwhile to investigate the possibility of repasting the CPU/APU and GPU with GC Gelid Extreme or Kryonaut when you get the unit (despite initial benchmarks seemingly putting the temps in a relatively 'acceptable' range).
Dell has a bad track record with thermal paste applications (especially in G5 units), and when they tested the 4900H in the same unit it scored much lower than what it should have (though this could have been a result of BOTH inadequate cooling capacity for 4900H and improper thermal paste application - and it wouldn't be a wonder to see 5600M suffer because of this oversight as well and could also inhibit somewhat 4800H). -

on the G5 i plan on maxing out the memory @ 32 GB @3200 MHz but will wait to see what it can do and for more sodimm options to come out. And will stress test it then do a paste swap then redo the same tests and see what i get. i am excited to get it tomorrow. -
Well... I won't deny, I had tuned myself to believe that Ryzen Gen3 4000CPUs requires 3200mhz RAMs to work well. Although those low power U-variants may still work with 2666mhz types smoothly.
-
The only jedec approved kit is the slow micron 3200cl22-kit. Later this year a faster smsung jedec 3200cl18ish kit is rumored to launch. There are many other kits that are faster, but they are xmp. The Crucial ballistix 3200cl16-sodimm is one, but it uses xmp and 1.35V so WO possibility to tune ram in bios/ryzen master it will probably run 2666cl16 :/

so installing my SSDS PM981 1TB and Intel 660P 1TB

See if there may be a switch in the drivers which may be keeping the dGPU off (I think there IS a switch like that - or at least there should be in the DELL provided drivers).
If you are upgrading drivers, it may be worthwhile to express upgrade the drivers ON TOP of the DELL pre-installed ones - seeing how this should retain most/all of the functionality in case the AMD stock drivers from their own website may be missing a few things - though if they have mobile drivers for this, then nothing should be missing.Ed. when you have 2x, x4 NVME SSDs it appears to have Dual x4 3.0 connections per HWINFO did not test sata m.2s
i can also confirm the LCD is a BOE084A from week 1 2018 per HWINFO
hwinfo detects this as a 5700 but only difference apprears to me memory amount and bandwidth. GPUZ detects it all correctly so far im happy with it only complaint i have so far is lack of touch screen option -

I can Confirm Running Folding @ home the cpu spikes up to 101C on the CPU and 90 on the 5600. i will be replacing the thermal paste this weekend and see what happens
-
Please do so, and re-run the tests to see if anything changes.
Dell's execution of cooling is worrying here because they might not be giving the GPU or CPU a chance to show just how potent they can be.
It could also explain the 4900H abysmal results when DELL tried it (basically, inadequate cooling capacity with questionable thermal paste application).
In Intel versions its relatively simple to undervolt, but we can't do that with AMD's Renoir (at least not that I'm aware of).
It 'may' be possible to enable Wattman in drivers using MSI afterburner and see if it gives you the option of undervolting the GPU at least... but that usually worked on the desktop replacements with AMD gpu's thus far (RX 580 and Vega 56)... not actual mobile gpu chips. -

This would be good indeed if possible along with doing a clean application of quality thermal paste.
This would be good indeed if possible along with doing a clean application of quality thermal paste.
However, it was supposed to be Dell's job to provide proper cooling assembly and quality thermal paste applicationLast edited by a moderator: Jun 5, 2020 -
