    Hello

Is there any way to set up Wake-On-LAN with Dell Insipon N5010?

When I am at home, I use notebook as a stationary system unit with monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to it and when I need to switch on the notebook I need to open its cover and push the "Power" button.

Now I am planning to place the notebook in the rack (in the box under the table) because at now it takes a lot of space on the table. So I want to have ability to switch on the notebook when it is in the rack with cover being closed. Because all my home devices are arranged into one LAN with the Wi-Fi router, it would be very convinient to switch on the notebook from the android smartphone using Wake-On-LAN, but it doesn't working. I have tried not only from smartphone, but from another notebook too (with Windows apps) but with the same negative result - there is no response from the notebook which I try to switch on.

I would be very thankful for an advise.

    Hi,

My name is Piyush and I work for Dell Social Media Forum. I just went through your queries and I would like to share few points which can assist you in resolving the issue. As far as checking the functionality of the laptop Dell Inspiron N5010 to use it with the lid closed, in this case please follow the steps mentioned below:-

Click Start - Control panel - Category(on top right) - Large Icons - Power Options - Choose what closing Lid does - Then select NEVER for all the four options under On Battery and Ac Adapter....After all this restart the computer and after restaring when you close the lid the computer will not shut down and you can use it with the lid closed, However you have to turn the computer on for once whenever you start your work for the day and once the computer turns on for the first time you can close the lid and keep it on the rack under table as you mentioned. This will really help you with your concern.

    and

Secondly for Wireless not turn off when lid closed, follow the under mentioned setps:-

Click Start - Control panel - Category(on top right) - Device Manager - Click the + sign on Network Adapters and then right click on your wireless network card and then click properties and then on the top right click the Power Management Tab and then Uncheck Allow this device to wake the computer and click ok and then restart the computer and after that whenever you will close the lid the system will still remain online.

Hope it should resolve your purpose and your query as well.

    Thanks,
    Dell-Piyush

    Hello Piyush,

Can you advise if the Dell Inspiron N5010 can wake up by jiggling the mouse or pushing any key on the keyboard? I have my Dell N5010 as stationary use also connected to a monitor, keyboard, mouse. I would like to be able to put it to sleep, but wake it up with the mouse or keyboard. Right now I have to open the laptop lid and push the power button to wake it up and is not convenient with my stationary set up.

    Thanks.
