Hi,
I recently ordered an Inspirion 1720 from Dell outlet, at what I thought was a very good price. Walsh Western then lost it in transit.
An investigation is currently in progress, and if it can't be tracked down, which I doubt, they have said I'll get a replacement.
Thing is, it being an outlet machine it was a refurb of some form, and no direct replacement exists. Other thing is, the spec of the original machine is not now available as it has been superceded.
What do you think I'll get, or can negotiate for? An Outlet machine of similar or higher spec? A brand new machine of similar spec?
What do people reckon?
TIA.
Andy.

Remember its not dells fault the shipping company lost it so they shouldn't have to strike a deal with you. What i would do is buy a studio 17 instead. It is a much nicer laptop.

agree,get studio 17

Not trying to get anything out of Dell that I don't deserve, just wondered what people thought they may offer me as a replacement as the original spec machine isn't now available.
Not really sure what I'd gain for going for a Studio 17 though. Sure, it looks a bit nicer, and it has an HDMI port, which I'm not that bothered about, but for a machine of similar spec to the 1720 I was getting through the outlet, it would be nearly £350 more, which is 50% on top of what I was paying already. -
Same or better if what they will give you.

If you want another refurb 1720, Dell will *usually* hold for 7 days while new systems are added to the inventory. If a system with your same specs shows up, you'll get that one (or a system that's close enough for them to not care). If it doesn't happen, Dell will match it up the best they can.
Keep in mind that you probably won't negotiate directly with Dell. Not quite the way insurance works. -
Thanks. Most important thing to me is a WUXGA screen, and if the replacement doesn't have that it's not acceptable. There's only one on there at the moment with a WUXGA screen and that's about £200 more. I'd happily settle for that.

Again, they usually wait 7 days for outlet purchases to see if another system with the same specs pops up.

Thanks for info. WUXGA ones seems pretty rare on there, so I've got my fingers crosssed that it'll be the only one.

Looks like I finally have a resolution... Investigation complete and Dell are replacing my order. From what I gather I'm getting a new build machine of identical spec to the outlet machine, at the outlet price.
Not a bad result, even of the whole thing has taken nearly two weeks to resolve.
