    I solved my problem.

If you buy from dell.ca and have the 1 year limited warranty... and say, there's a problems you noticed but didn't cause (speakers don't work, hard drive error, screen dies quick, screen flickers, computer wont start), you have to call Dell (or get it fixed elsewhere :p). If they can't fix it over the phone, then you can arrange UPS to pick up your laptop to get fixed, or get replaced. I am now certain I want to buy Dell because before I was afraid I would have reoccurring problems and would have to keep paying shipping and insurance to send it off. Now that I know you can get it send via UPS for free all the time within the warranty, there's nothing troubling me from buying with Dell. Studio 1555, here I come... soon.

My 1555 has been pretty much flawless since day 1, and it's a refurbished model from the Outlet. I assume it's the same in Canada as it is here in the US as far as replacements and shipping. If I have to send my laptop in for repairs or replacement, Dell sends an empty box with foam packaging, and a pre-paid FedEx shipping label to return to Dell. I just have to call FedEx to arrange a pickup, or drop it off at a local FedEx station. This extends for the entire warranty of the system.

One thing that you have to remember is that most of the people who are using this website in the first place, are people that have had trouble with their computers, and sought out some sort of solution. It's likely that if they were happy with it, that they would not have looked for this forum and hence will not be voting in your poll. So I wouldn't be surprised if this poll came out overwhelmingly negative, nor would i consider that to be a detracting factor.

People who are looking for reviews are far less likely to join than people who are looking for an answer to a question or those seeking to complain. Just the way it is.

Completely agree. This poll would be a very incorrect indication of user satisfaction with Dell. This is not the right place to do such polls. :)

    Even though it's currently 2-0 in Dell's favor. ;)

They sent me a prepaid box when I shipped it to them for service/repairs, and again when I returned the laptop for a replacement. Same thing when they sent me parts and wanted the old ones back.

I talked to Dell on Dell Chat, and they said in Canada they send someone from UPS to come to my door and pick up my laptop. But... hopefully they aren't liars.

    EDIT: 3-0

Here, it's up to you. I could have FedEx come collect it from my house, but I usually just choose to drop it off at their center; it's barely 5 minutes from my house.

You know what you iz? You iz a LUCKY DUCKY! Anyhoo, I live in Canada, so no Dell Center here. So, looks like I'm safe from shipping and insurance if a UPS person comes to pick it up.

From experience, they send you a box with instructions on how to package your laptop. It already has shipping labels etc, and all you do is slap it on the package, call up the carrier to schedule a pick up or drop it off at the carrier's facility. They then ship it to Dell, and then once Dell is done with the repairs or whatever, they'll ship it back to you. You don't lose anything except time ;)

Ordered my laptop from Dell.com, came pretty quickly, completely satisfied with it so far. No problems yet (knock on wood).

Anyways, I came to these forums for the reviews and feedback about laptops from real, un-biased people. Wish I had done that with my previous HP laptop *cough*

LOL. I talked to two reps (1 yesterday, 1 today) and they both said that with the 1 year limited warranty, if I have any problems I didn't cause (manufacturers) then I would call Dell and if they couldn't fix it via phone, they would send a UPS person to come get the laptop. Problem Solved.

You're doing quite a bit of research before purchasing. +1 for that.

What if you pay with american express. I know it extands basic warranty by 1 year, but is the warranty still supplied by Dell or I have to deal with AMEX ?

I'm going to get my 14z with 1 year basic and pay with AMEX card

Thanks. I'm excited so I need to know everything before I get it since it's my first laptop and all.
