I ordered the laptop on December 19th, and it was delivered on the 27th. I love the M1330 in general but mine has several of the usual issues that make me want to have it replaced. The left hinge is loose, and when looked at in the proper lighting I can see some slight scratches on the cover next to the "XPS" letters and a small dent on the palm rest near the top right corner of the touchpad. The deal breaker for me is a very distracting whining sound that I started to notice after a few days of use (I have the A04 motherboard, by the way).

After some thought I decided that I should be 100% satisfied with a product this expensive, so I'm willing to go through the hassle of getting replacements until I'm happy with my new laptop. I'm new at this so I just want to run through it with you guys first before contacting Dell. Do I just call the XPS Customer Service line, tell them about my issues, and request a replacement? Is it easy to have them send a new one or will they want to try and repair this one first? I'd really rather have a brand new system than have someone come and fiddle with mine in order to make it satisfactory.

I'd like to get this over with today so any help will be appreciated. Sorry for my newbness.

you should be able to contact them and get inhouse service i would have thought, and keep doing this until u get it to work. It shoudnt be too much hassle as its not like you are sending it to them.

Looks like a fine reason to call them, you should not have any trouble.

Call them. Your system is very new. You probably won't have to tell them what's wrong. When mine was that new i said "i want a replacement" and was going to an explination, and the lady stopped me and asked for my address and sent me a new one.

Anyway that's a lot of defects, they will have to take it back. How is a technician gonna fix your palm wrest? come out with a hammer and hammer it? Lol.

As for the whining, don't count on it going away.

Thanks for the responses, I'll give Dell a call shortly.

I'm not counting on it, but what are the chances of getting them to give me any reimbursement since those $800 and $700 sales started right after I ordered my system? If I did get any sort of change in the original price, would that have an effect on the $200 gift card I'm supposed to be receiving?

How long does it typically take for a replacement system to arrive? I'm only going to be at my present address until this weekend and want to make sure I tell them to send it to the right place. I assume it would take longer than that, and I know I could just ask them on the phone, but I trust you guys more for an accurate answer than I would a customer service rep.

Actually I think I may just be better off waiting to get the replacement after I'm settled back in at school to avoid it arriving in the middle of a move. Is there any sort of time restraint, though? This Wednesday will be three weeks from the day I ordered it, and I don't want to run into any extra hassle for being past a certain time period.

Well whether I return it or ask for a replacement, is there a deadline that I have to do it buy?

If you get a replacement I believe your satisfactory period is extended to 45 days. Might want to contact tech support to make sure though.

When you get a replacement unit. Do you get another 21 days in case the replacement is also causing problems? or does it count from the first unit that I ordered?

From my experience, it's better to ask for a replacement than to re-order. If you ask for replacements in a timely manner, they give them to you. Also if you have enough replacements they start giving cash back and free upgrades. Hopefully after 1 replacement you'll get the system you want. But you can also return the system for a full refund after having it replaced. Just don't wait too long. I've had mine since October and asked for a full refund today, and they don't seem to have a problem with it.

Just don't be rude to the person on the phone. They'll understand your pain and try to help you out. But it also doesn't hurt to confirm what i just said with the person you speak with on the phone.

i got a full refund, even an option for a brand new system 2months into ownership, but both my units were falling apart each day...i had almost everything from the palm rest to the motherboard replaced and even they themselves offered to give me a new system. just be very kind and polite to them, they are very understanding....all the best...and about penryn, i live in malaysia and i know the CC manager for the 1330 personally...he said a revamp would come up mostly in september or august only :( hopefully faster if we are lucky...but they will not revamp soon as they just launched the 1530 and its not yet on penryn...

If it were me that you are thinking of that's probably what I would do, but unfortunately I have no backup computers... just the 1330.

I've heard that Dell has a 21 day policy for refunds/replacements. Is that not true? If it is, is it from the order date or the delivered date?

It's from the day that it leaves Dell, however, you should call them or chat with them to make sure and see when your date ends.
