I just got my Inspiron 9300 today!!!! It is so freakin awesome!!!!

    But.....

When I went to play War Craft 3, the Picture was all distorted at the top. I think it may be the wide screen resolution but I could be wrong.

I really need to figure out how to correct this problem.

    Thanks

Just at the top, that would be odd? It is probaly stretching the whole picture to the edge of the screen

If that is in the case, you can try fixed aspect ratio scaling, that way it will stretch to as big as it can without distorting the picture

Right click desktop -> properties -> settings tab -> advanced button -> video card tab (geforce go 6800) -> click on nview display settings on the left menu -> click on your laptop monitor -> click the device settings button -> click on device adjustments -> choose fixed aspect ratio scaling

Widescreen is not supported in warcraft 3 :(

I believe the setting you may have had it on was centred, not stretching, not fixed aspect, but centred, that would account for black up top, as I also tried this with War Craft 3 (excellent game)

That said, let the 9300 stretch the visuals (especially for war craft), may look a bit off at first, but after a while using the whole screen looks way better and does not affect war craft 3 graphics to much degree.

Ok, thanks guys! That pretty much fixed my problem.

One last thing though, the icons on a 1440x900 dispaly look kind of blurry. Is this also because of the widescreen or the resolution? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Color setting: 32 bit highest
    Icon and Text Size: Normal
Also, images on web look blurry and distorted and text is kind of bold. All the text and color settings are set at normal.

    Ahh, another problem.....

Make sure your cleartype is OFF, the 9300 lcd screen does not need cleartype...

    Ok, one last problem (hopefully)...

This has happened four times now.

I get this blue screen that says there was an error and that Windows XP was shut down to prevent damage. From there I had to just press the off button because my OS was shut down.

It said something about new hardware being installed and that I need to uninstall it. I did not install any new hardware.

Come on life savers, last problem, help plz!

What are they, how do they benefit your system, and where do I get them? Do they cost money?

    Additional information on the problem:

    1. Blue Screen comes up with white text saying:

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

CHECK TO MAKE SURE ANY NEW HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE IS PROPERLY INSTALLED. IF THIS IS A NEW INSTALLATION, ASK YOUR MANUFACTURER FOR ANY WINDOWS UPDATES YOU MIGHT NEED.

    BEGINNING DUMP OF PHYSICAL MEMORY.
    PHYSICAL MEMORY DUMP COMPLETE.
CONTACT YOU SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR OR TECHNICAL SUPPORT GROUP FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.

    2. Due to the fact that Windows XP was shut off to prevent damge I press the power button to restart.

    3. Half an hour later the wonderful (not) blue screen pops up with these depressing words above in italics.

    PLZ NEED HELP!!!

Omegadrivers are one of many unofficial tweaked drivers that you can use. They are based on standard nvidia drivers, but have been modified for quality, performance, or to make them work with models that they weren't origionally designed for.

They don't cost anything, and you can just uninstall them and re-install the stock drivers if you find some reason you don't like the Omega drivers.

    www.omegadrivers.net

Old drivers can cause blue screens, so I'd start by getting the Omega driver for your video card, and then hit dells support section and update to any newer version drivers they have available.
