It's late (been fixing the darn computer!) and I need to go to bed, so I won't discuss this much in length, but I wanted to give a "heads-up" to all of you who use the 6400/E1505 notebooks...

...Viewed a post on here earlier tonight indicating that Dell had released a new Flash BIOS update (A13) for these computers, so I went ahead and downloaded the file, and went on to install it.

Upon re-booting, the computer would not launch into Windows, instead giving me a error message (see below). Long story short - nothing worked. Considering my E1505 is still under factory warranty, I gave them a call, but after thirty minutes on the phone, they advised that I re-install the operating system (uh-huh... :mad )

Researching on the desktop, I came across this board and particular thread:

    http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor..._bios&message.id=40489&query.id=105284#M40489

The error message I received was identical to the one mentioned by the OP.

After worrying for some time that I had turned my notebook into a glorified paperweight, I went ahead and gave the instructions mentioned in message #4 a try.

After following them to the proverbial "T" (using UltraISO and creating "boot-cd"), the notebook is back up and running great again...WHAT A RELIEF!!!!

    G'night!

Perfectly normal for me, upgraded from A12 - A13

just curious did you go into Bios and check that the hard drive is in the booting sequence list? I'm guessing that HD is de-selected from the list for some reason therefore no boot loader can be found.

Nope...HD was still in the list, and I even manually selected it (via F12, IIRC) to make sure. Computer would get past the initial Dell startup screen (showing BIOS info at the bottom) to a black screen with a blue www.dell.com bar at the top...HD indicator light would be lit for about ten seconds before the error message was displayed.

As indicated in this thread and the other though, the new BIOS update seems to be hit or miss...either is works just fine, or it "paperweights", at least temporarily, your system!
