    Hi,
I have a dell 1749 with I7 and the ATI graphics card and loved it till today when I applied the recommended A04 version bios update.
It stopped at 69 out of 70 in the install process for over an hour and then I had a brick!
Dell have agreed to replace the unit as it is less than a month old and totally fried, it wont even get to the dell logo stage which means you can't revert to the previous bios.
It may have been that it was already faulty but I would be very wary of updating the bios at this time.

    Whow! Scary stuff.

I got my 1749 last month with BIOS v.01 and I immediately converted to BIOS v.03. I also hear that BIOS v.04 doesn't solve the fan issue. So I think I skip this one for sure. :(

I doubt that Mootz trouble has to do with this particular version of the BIOS.

I assume that Dell use a standard procedure for the update of the FLASH memory that holds the BIOS. Such a procedure can fail once in a blue moon and leave you with a non-bootable machine, which is a real bugger of course, but it's not related to any specific version of the BIOS.

Thus there's no reason to be afraid of BIOS A04 any more than other past and future versions. I did the update without trouble, and so can all of you out there. Exactly what benefits A04 brings is not clear though - but that's another story...
