If you ordered XP with your Vostro, make sure you go into the BIOS and change ATA to AHCI. The performance increase is amazing. You can enter the bios by hitting F2 during boot.

In what respect is the performance increase amazing? Does the OS load faster?

The OS loads much faster. PCMark05 went from 4346 to 4570.
Disk access in general is much faster.

Not to mean any disrespect, but can I get a second opinion here? I'm very wary of messing with the BIOS.

I have enabled AHCI and used slipstreamed drivers on my 7.2K RPM SATA HDD witih my 1520 (identical), and it isn't that amazing.

    I came from a UATA100 drive.

In fact, I don't feel it's that much faster at all... and NO my laptop is PERFECT (no perf. problems or BS lagging it up) so don't tell me that. 2.0C2D and 2GB of RAM... the performance is definitely GOOD, but nothing special.

Now if I could be in WinXP in less than 5 sec after pushing the power button, I would be impressed. :)
