I have had my machine for a few days now and i noticed that the upper right hand corner of the laptop got quite warm. I had heard that the laptop's fans were quite quiet (which they are), however I realized that the right side fan was not turning on! oops. Was simple to fix, just flashed the BIOS and now it runs nice and cool![]()

I am loving this machine, I got it with the X1400 and am getting 3DMark05 scores of 2132 OC'd. Also getting about 5:15 out of the 9 cell battery with wifi off and low screen brightness. Just thought I would warn you all.

Has anyone who recently bought e1705 had to flash bios?
-
I flashed my BIOS. I didn't necessariliy have to, but I always upgrade my BIOS when one is available.
-
how do you flash the BIOS?
-
The top right of the notebook is where the video card is. All you are feeling is the heat coming from the heatsink. Nothink to worry about. Depending on how much the video card is doing, the amount of heat will be there.

yes, i understand this, the issue was that the fan wasnt turning on at all
now for the most part it stays cool

@prime: Download the BIOS update from Dell and execute the program. Make sure to download the version you can run from within Windows.

Is there anyway to get your fan to turn on to check? I feel it getting warm but I dont feel an air being blown out. How can I check if it is running?
-
Ok, I thought I heard the fan running but apparently, it was just the harddrive. Is this normal? It sounds a lot like a fan (though it is still somewhat quiet).
I flipped it over and looked into the air intake vents, and both fans were off. I ran superPI to 8M to get the processor going, and the fan (top left corner) did turn on at about 3.5 min into it. At about 5 min it shut off again, then the calculation was done by 7 min.
Next, I ran 4M again, and the CPU fan came onafter a minute, and after a while, I noticed that the fan at the top right came on too. It's so quiet, the harddrive is louder.
Warning to I9400 owners
