i didnt get any, im too careful with my things.
-
too careful doesn't mean anything. It will break on its own
I am so glad I got a warranty on my inspiron 1000. If i hadn't, it would be dead as a doornail right now. And they gave me a new E1505 -
I had always heard that Dell's build quality wasn't that great, but their warranties were awesome. I don't know how true that is, but...
My Inspiron 6000 lasted for a year and a half with no problems, and then I had a problem with the side USB port, the screen, and the keyboard, all of which got replaced for free because I had purchased a warranty.
I'm careful with my things too, but with the pricing I did for my 1520, the 3 year complete coverage warranty wound up being about $60 more than a 1 year, so I figured that was entirely worth it.
I'm not sure about transferrability of warranty to a new owner, but that'd certainly help your resale value if you plan on upgrading in a year or two. -

they won't blow up if you treat them right.
-
they will die on their own accord REGARDLESS of how well you treat them -

Ive NEVER have had a problem with mine or my familys computer and laptops, you know why? cause we know how to use them. Im not going to need the warranty, not now not in 3 years.

Good luck with that. I've been very careful with my 700m but after a while, it started falling apart. First the speaker goes out, then monitor backlight, then usb, rubber foot fell off... Well, I just got back my laptop from the repairs, they replaced mobo, LCD panel assembly, keyboard... Right now, my computer looks and smells brand-new - and that's 2.5 years after I got it
I don't regret buying 3-year warranty, not at all
One caveat: they couldn't fix it the first time, when I sent it with the speaker problem, they didn't bother fixing it, instead did another thing (palmrest). Also, this time, they for whatever reason forgot to return pcmcia blank card and hdd bracket with the system, even tho the first time they came back w/o any problem. On the other hand, it took them less than 24 hours to replace LCD, mobo and keyboard, so I got the computer back 3 days after I have sent it in
IMHO, they only way to prevent anything happening to your laptop over the years is simply not using it. If you open and close lid, something will eventually break. Keyboard will wear out if you type on it. Mine replaced because some letters faded away, and I didn't even ask them to do anything about it. The list goes on. Yes, you can keep your notebook forever in excellent condition but only if you keep it in the box it came in and never take it out -
You really are an ignorant pluff
it doesn't matter how well you treat them -
chances are if a computer is going to break, itll be in the first 2-3months anyways.
but for those times that it does outside the 1yr, a warranty is a decent thing to have.
Knowing how to use something HAS NOTHING to do with something breaking, period. If you think it does, your head is too big for your neck. -
I think it's pretty nice to have extended warranty. Even if nothing breaks, you can still send it in to get new lid, new keyboard and all that juzz to make you computer look new again. Apparently wear&tear IS covered by the warranty

-
ok ... didn't buy it .. but can i get it later.. ??
-
-
I got it like 3 months after the purchse, IIRC. I got an offer from Dell in mail and had some to think it over
So, if you wait for a bit, you might get one too
Just don't wait too long
-
It can be transfered,
Also you can buy a 1 year warranty and upgrade later.
Oh and btw, laptops DO fall apart no matter how well you treat them, I've treated my inspiron well, it never got off the desk and now my ethernet connector started acting up, my screen has some white spots on it :/ -
if it comes this time with my 1420, i may pick the complete care up. -
BTW, I thought that "buyer's remorse" pertains to the feeling of buyng something which is not really necessary or needed -

1. I believe that warranties are necessary. The motherboard of my previous laptop went out during the first year and so did almost everything else with it.
2. When it comes to Dell I would get the
1 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day
deal for $70.
Then I would have a whole year to decide whether to get pay for the 2nd year.
3. Paying for 3 years upfront doesn't make sense since you can do it year by year. -
not everyone that diligent of keeping track of all the due dates... That's how the credit card companies survive in america
-
accidental care = wear n tear
-
Can I extend my warranty? I want to bump it up to 3 years instead of 2.
-
I don't have accidental, yet they've fixed my tear&wear items, even those I didn't say anything about
Although, I did have to whine quite a bit about this whole thing
-
I am just glad to hear that you can get it later, and hopefully at a cheaper price if they send you a special mailing about it. I just don't have the cash right now to get it, but I want to...
-
Got an inspiron 1000 in 2004 or so. Check.
Got a 1 year warranty with it. Check.
End of 1 year warranty extended to 2 more years for around $150. check.
Computer takes a crap and turns out to be a piece of crap after a couple of years. Check.
Gets replaced with brand new, fully loaded Inspiron E1505. Check.
I'm happy. Check.
I'm a little surprised you haven't gotten the point yet
IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW WELL YOU TREAT YOUR STUFF! IF IT DIES IT DIES -
btw do you all think 3 year warranties are necessary for desktops too?
-
-
who buys oem desktops?
-
If this was a couple of months ago I would totally disagree with everyone and say warranties are not worth it. However a few months ago my laptop decides to die on me without warning, 2 months after my 1 year standard warranty expired. Let's just say I was pissed. Regardless of how careful you are with your stuff, when it comes to laptops, you never know what may happen. Especially Dell, which are not famous for their build quality. But hey, you get what you pay for right? I buckled down and decided to get a 3 year warranty. I believe in the long run, it is actually worth the cost.
-
-
-
I got the 3-year warranty w/ accidental and theft protection for when I'm off at college
.
-
I used to work at best buy, and personally could not push the service plans on the desktops that much, but laptops I pushed hard. I personally feel a laptop is very much worth it, if the screen goes out, that alone is worth more then the $$ you spend on the 3 year warranty, and with everything fairly much integrated it makes for very expensive replacement parts.
-
if you didn't opt for any extra warranty at all, can I still upgrade later?
-
i have no desire to build a desktop -
even if you don't you could replace the parts in a desktop any idiot can do that, and it is much cheaper then the warranty
-
What liquid says is right; if you pay $300 for a warranty on your desktop and in 2 years the video card explodes (happened to me), you can get the same video card for like $75. =\
-
oh yeah that's true
should I go with INspiron Desktops or XPS 410? Same specs almost but higher price for xps
warranty
