I got the 3 year completecare warranty for my dell, and I was wondering if it will cover natural wear of the battery over time. If it does, will it be for the whole 3 years?

 

If it is the CompleteCare Accidental Damage warranty, then no, usually not:

Dell does not specify it, but extended warranties never cover the battery.

 

But does it cover it at all? Within the first year or something?

 

And what if I did something such as drop the battery and damage it, it would cover it that way, right?

The battery is covered for the initial 1 year warranty or the 1 year warranty (if you have a longer warranty plan)...

Warranties NEVER cover normal wear and tear and that is why Dell doesn't cover the battery for more than a year... Though other manufacturers usually top out at 6 months :S

 

Unless the complete care warranty covers accidental damage, Dell would politely tell you to shove off if you dropped your battery and damaged it. Now, if Complete Care DOES cover accidental damage, they would replace the battery in the first year.

Actually, all the OEMs I work with cover batteries for a full year.

 

The whole point of "Complete Care" is to cover accidental damage. Having said that however, they still only offer a 1 year warranty on batteries.

 

Having said all of that stuff above, don't forget that Dell has the option to tell you 'no replacement stuff' if they believe you intentionally damaged your hardware.

So no dropping batteries, k?

 

So even if you really did accidentally drop your battery past the first year of three year completecare, they still wouldn't give a replacement? That sucks...

 

Batteries are only covered for a year. Period.

If an accident destroyed your battery past the first year, it would be the same as running over your laptop with a vehicle after the warranty had expired, as far as any warranty is concerned.

Batteries and AC adapters are considered consumables, which is why warranties won't cover them past 1 year. As far as Dell knows or cares, the battery could go from full life to 15 minutes two days after that first year expires and it's no longer their problem. It doesn't WORK that way, but they wouldn't care if it did.

 

I dunno about all this, but i got my battery replaced during my 2nd year without incident. I just had to send them my old battery. This was with my I9300 with which i had a 2 year extended warranty.

I guess its better to try your luck and call dell.
