Hi, i'm currently looking at the dell e1705 to buy but i'm not sure which warranty i want. I've read through the site about safeware/state farm or extended warranty's through dell etc. I'm probably gonna spend around 2000-2300. I'm wondering if i should just get a 2yr limited warranty from dell(possibly get 4yr or just extend for college since its required for classes) and get a state farm article insurance for theft/accidental/etc. Will this cover everything? Should i go through safeware instead? Should i just stick with dell's complete care package? Thanks for any replies in advance!

I went for the 3 year warranty through dell, for hardware failure and have seperate insurance for accidental damage, etc.

I'm not sure if this was the thread that you were referring to or not, so I'm just posting it in case: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=9486

Most of users that have been around laptops forever, recommend what is stated in that thread. If you want to get a warranty from dell, then go with something like 1 or 2 years. Towards the end of your warranty, you can call Dell and extend your warranty with no trouble at all.

Personally, if I had known about the insurance, I just would have gone with that instead. Dell is normally good about replacing stuff under warranty, but it doesn't cover upgrades that you do yourself (RAM,HDD,display, etc). Furthermore, the warranty is very limited. It only covers problems caused by dell. If you spill something or it gets dropped, Dell most likely won't cover it unless you get the Accidental coverage.

thanks for the quick replies. im still debating it, but i think i'll go with a 2 yr limited warranty from dell, and get insurance to coverage accidental/theft/etc unless anyone else has any better ideas.
