3Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor, 24x7 Phone Support vs Get $70 Gift Card with 4 Yr Ltd Warranty and At-Home Service

Is the 3 year warranty limited as well? I'm wondering because I'd like to have this laptop for all 4 years of college.

I think 4 year is worth if you want to buy something else from DELL, maybe a backpack, etc. You pay $80 for the 4 year, but in return get back $70 to buy something. So it's just a $10 upgrade. However, if you have absolutely nothing else to buy from DELL, then I think you should really think if you need that 4 years.

do you plan on keeping the computer for 4 years? Even if you do, will you?

My thinkpad came with a 3 year warranty. I planned on keeping it 4+ years, but after it started blowing motherboards monthly (they were replaced under warranty), I figured that it would be a good time to get away from it. After a year or two, you might want something different - maybe this laptop won't be up to your needs or you find something better.

I think 2 is the most I would reasonably go.

I was thinking of using the $70 giftcard and a 10% coupon on an external monitor for a M1330.

That would make getting the four years worth while. If you have something you can use the gift card on, you might as well go for it.

Don't forget some credit cards add an additional year to warranty :) I would personally get 4 years and spend the $70 GC. It's worth it for college, especially if the laptop you are getting is an XPS.
