Need some help with this. My wife's 1720 has an installed webcam, but the system isn't detecting it. We've tried updating drivers, etc., but no luck. It does not show up in Device Manager at all. Any suggestions appreciated.

Has it ever worked or been seen in Device Manager?

If not then I'd guess a connection hasn't been made properly - or they forgot it ;) It's connected to the motherboard through a gap in the palm rest under the keyboard from the display loom and is fairly easy to check. The camera itself is also attached by a ribbon cable that may not be in properly but needs a bit more dismantling (the screen bezel needs to be removed).

I'd check the motherboard connector first and if that looks fine then think about the other end. If it's under warranty then give Dell a call obviously and get it fixed, if it isn't then get ya screwdriver out ;)
