How is the quality on these webcams? Is it better to save the $30 and get an external webcam?

I'm glad I chose the integrated creative webcam to my Vostro 1500. It has good quality and nice features. You can record a video and capture photos at 1600x1200 resolution. It also has a integrated microphone.

It's not bad. The contrast on the camera isn't very good, but it does very well at still indoor pictures with lots of light. As far as video goes, it does all the way up to 1600x1200 I believe. But it is very laggy at this speed with only a few FPS. At 640x480 it does really quite good, and at 320x240 quality and FPS is excellent.

Here is a link to my Vostro 1400 review. There are 4 sample pictures I took. I would say that its well worth the $30. For $30, I don't think you can beat the quality. A $75-100 webcam would beat the quality most likely though...

That doesn't depend on the webcam - all vostros have the mic
