I’m going nuts with my internal keyboard on my Dell D620. The p key and others are naughty and do strange things. For example, pressing the p key inserts the text uiopqewr or rwequiop plus some mouse events, turns on the num-lock and does some deletions of existing text. Pressing the ‘ key sometime closes the current window. (That is real fun for composing a long email message.) The keys that are misbehaving are 0 – p [ ; ‘ / (Two columns down the right side of the keyboard). All the other keys are fine.

I think that this is not a new problem. I have searched the net for similar problem and found one at

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16600065~mode=flat

Of course, the problem is discussed and then I think the original author edited his/her message to say it was resolved, but never mentioned how. Bummer. I email the author, but haven’t gotten a response. (I’m not hopeful)

    I have tried:

    1) Rebooting
    2) Rebooting in safe mode
    3) Searching the net for similar problems, but have run out of things to search for

The Dell D620 is only a few months old. The problem only started when I removed the computer from the docking station and started using the internal keyboard. When I use the docking station and the external keyboard the keys are fine. I just moved and will be away from my IT folks for the next 4 months and really want/need to use the internal keyboard without screaming.

Any ideas? How does (Can?) one go about updating (reinstalling) the drivers for the internal keyboard?

    Will

It sounds like a hardware problem to me. I hope it's not...but I can't think of a software-related cause. I'm guessing the keyboard driver you're using is a standard one provided by Microsoft. I've never seen a Dell keyboard driver for any of its laptops.
