I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 ( I believe that is correct) notebook that I purchased about a year ago. My question is the more I use it (and I use it multiple times a day) the more loose the platform for opening the laptop becomes. Is there anyway to stop this or fix this. It's the joint that connects the monitor to the body of the laptop. I have an older one where it is a 90 degree angle instead of the new ones where it looks like it pivits open.

I hope that wasn't confusing and thanks for the help ahead of time.

Your screen hinge is loose. Sometimes you can pop a cover off and tighten the screws, other times, it is because the actual mountings for the hinges in the screen bezel itself has worn out.

My old XPS m140 has about 3/4 inch wobble (judging by the very top of screen).

If you still have a warranty you should be able to contact dell.

my waranty just ran out and it's not that bad right now. My sister has a 1520 or something in the 15 series and her wobble is terrible. The screen just bounces back and forth and I'm don't want that to happen to my baby, lol.

Just pop off the cover and tighten the screws. That's all that was necessary for my Inspiron E1405.

FYI, The E1405 had a screw from the underside where the battery is removed that seemed to be holding the cover in place. When I removed this screw, the cover popped off without any resistance. Check for this screw also.
