Well, I spent about 2 hours collectively trying to troubleshoot this problem myself as well as spending time on with technical support and got no where...
The problem I have is my XPS 1530 is not keeping the time correctly (lower right hand side clock). I can't figure out if its a software issue (Vista?) or a hardware related issue. Do motherboards still have those small batteries that keep track of time in the BIOS (and could this even affect the windows clock?)
After I told the tech support guy all my windows updates were good, he said the only other option is to do a system restorealbeit, that may be true, but his lack of any kind of care kind of annoyed me.
Am I the only one experiencing this issue? Anyone have experience on the situation that could enlighten me? Thanks!

Is your time zone set correctly? I think the Vista clock syncs with internet time when Windows starts so if the time zone is wrong it's going to sync the wrong time.

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
I had this issue at first, so I did this:
a.)Right click the small clock,
b.)select Adjust Date/Time,
c.) Select the Internet Time tab,
d.) Either un-tick the "Synchronize with an Internet time server", or
d.1) Select a different time server from the drop-down combo box.
Save settings (Ok), and you'll be ready in no time
Cheers!
Enjoy your m1530 n_n. -
I'll be sure to let you know if it works for me!

I had the same problem, however you might have a bad cmos battery which needs to get replaced. It could stop your computer from function properly.
-
nop.. if a bad CMOS battery is the culprit.. then it will also reset the BIOS to the factory setting and reset your time to some 1st jan 2000 or something.. and this will cause the windows to throw a notice in windows login screen...but as it not happen here.. its some thing like you are wrongly entry a different time zone and every time it sync to the server it gives the wrong time..check that its gives only wrong time..or giving wrong time with wrong day, month, year altogether?

You're not hooked up to a domain, are you? A domain time source can change your time if you are connected to such a network. Otherwise check to see if your internet time is connecting to "time.windows.com" (that's what I'm using at the moment) ... and update it "now" to see if changes anything for you.

Yea I was also using the same internet time server (time.windows.com) and when I select update now, the time does update to the correct time.
Unfortunately, over a period of 30 min to an hour, the time will be slow, and in fact over a longer period, just gets worse.
I do notice that upon resuming from either hibernate or stand by, the time reflects the time when I went into the particular mode, not the actual time (i.e. if I close the lid at or force a hibernate (fn+f1) at 1:00AM, the next time I use the laptop, the time will still say 1AM, and continue from there, but it will still be slow)
I'm afraid I might have to do a system restore, but I can't imagine why this sort of issue would even happen? Even if I did a PC restore, whatever caused it in the first place seems likely to occur again if I can't pin point the issue.
Thanks for all the advice so far! -
It could be the cmos battery I had this problem on a old machine I had
-
Yeah, I would suspect a CMOS battery that needs to be replaced too.
-
Its the battery man. I had a M1530 and the same day I got it I had the same problem, later that night after updating clock numerous times manually I finally got the "time of day clock stopped" error message. From there you can't go into bios or even load Windows. To change the battery is a pain. You will need a tech to come or send it back to Dell.

The time synchronizes with the net. The default site lags. I use time.windows.com instead.

Although, the M15x is lookin pretty good
Weird issue on my 1530
