I have removed all the dell software and installed my own version of vista ultimate and teh strangest thing is happening.

If I change any settings in BIOS widnows will bluescreen when it tries to load. Untill I turn the computer off for more than 1 or 2 seconds (just to stop it looping bcak into restart) then it starts up fine again :s.

Its very odd just wondering if anyone else has this

And no its not my version of vista Iv'e tried it on 2 other laptops and a PC and nothing like this happening.

    lol, but I doubt it.

Windows won't BSOD just cause it is activated on another pc.....

Did you reboot after installing each driver to rule out drver issues?

I also don’t think blue screens are due to activation problems. Nonetheless, it is illegal to run more than 1 copy at the same time (unless you have a volume license), and you will eventually be locked out from the system IF you are running an illegal copy.

Having said that, what kind of BIOS changes give a blue screen ?

OK well its not an illegal copy. It is not activated yet as im waiting for an email with my key. the copy on my PC is my copy the other two installs were on peoples laptops that came with vista I just reinstalled for them becasue I have a Vista CD. And this one will be activated though work (just hasn't been yet).

Also if I decided to install it illegaly it would work anyways becasue there is no diffrence in the system at all.

Well enabling or disabling bluetooth makes it unhappy, Changing wificatcher settings, boot device. All of those things seems to make it very unagreeable untill the syetem powers off for a second or more.

Not sure if it might be one of my drivers as I installed them all at once so I might try narrowing them down later. Also the 1st time I hibernated it didn;t like that either but now its fine.

And like PhenixFx says if its illegal it doesn't give you blue screens vista just locks itself down so all you can use is internet exporer for short periods of time before it logs you off again. (I know this as a friend was trying the -rearm thing so they could test it out for 120 days and they forgot to rearm it and it locked them out. Was quite funny)

I would guess you didn't load the driver for the hard drive. There are a ton of threads about this. I did the same thing when I reloaded. Really should be a sticky.

Seems that might be the problem :s forgot to install teh intel AHCI drivers when installing windows :(.

So annoying I'd forgottrn I had to do stuff like that as vista just installs on sata and ACHI and raid or whetever where as XP used to just not work at all.

    Thanks for the help
