    Hi all!

I have a very weird problem w/ my dvd writer on Vostro 1500: I want to burn 4 .AVI files on a blank dvd. Nero says burning was successful and ejects tray, but when i press it in again just for checking, explorer says the dvd is blank. BUT (yes, there's a big but) if I put the dvd in my stand alone dvd player, IT WORKS. I can see the movies.

At first I tried using a no-name blank dvd and I thought it was the poor media quality, but the second attempt I took was w/ a good blank media, I had no problems with several dvd writers I owned (on laptops and desktops).

I have the Optiarc AD-5560A with DD12 firmware (the latest firmware).

    Anyone? Suggestions?

do you use nero 7. there was some known compatibility issues with vista for it. however i havent yet heard of this kind of a problem. if it is so try using nero 8. also put the dvd in a XP machine and check whether explorer can detect the files

Nero 8 here. That XP idea sounds good. I'll give it a try in my desktop. ;)

Anyway, I can live with a Vista issue, but would you say it's a dvd writer hardware/software problem? I wouldn't say that, but...

i noticed on the Dell driver download page there is an "urgent" one for DVD RWs. Might be what you're after.

Edit: it's under system firmware: TSST - Firmware (Applies to: TS-L632H slim 8x DVD+/-RW) 28/11/2007

I guess it's solved: I used a third media and explorer behaved normal. I could see the files in a normal way after burning.

The strange thing happened in this case too: after Nero 8 says 100%, it goes for 10-12 seconds back at 7% then ejects tray.

    I have Optiarc drive. ;)
