So simply, I could use a VGA to VGA cable to display my laptop on the nice TV we have?
-
I've never tried it. But it DOES have a VGA output.

yes this is correct. just make sure you set it to the correct resolution or it will look funny.

I was actually looking this up earlier, on Wiki. How does VGA work, exactly? My laptop is close to my tv, so it would be nice to play games on there. The tv only has a yellow/white cord connection in front (oddly, not the red with it) and a cable hook up in back.

You need an adapter cable.

IF you have an hdtv you can also buy the 1720 adapter that conencts to the tv out port on the laptop. This gives you digital audio out and component out.
I successfully used this to display 1080i output out of the laptop and onto the tv . Plus you also get surround sound out wich is helpful when using your laptop as a dvd player and connecting it up to your surround sound receiver. -
Some TVs have a VGA in. If your only option is VGA out, your best bet will always to use the VGA in of the TV. If your PC has a DVI or HDMI out and your TV has a DVI or HDMI in, your best bet is to use that option instead (DVI can be converted to HDMI and vice-versa).

i have my 1720 right as i type this plugged in to my big screen hdtv, and its connected via vga
how can i test if i can run it in 1080i ? , i have component on my tv also, but i have my nintendo wii connected in that, ive always found the vga runs nice, same on my previous laptop, and i can run hd content on it fine, like playing 1080i hd stuff in media player etc
is that what you ment by saying you successfully used this to display 1080i output out of the laptop ??? , or do you mean you had windows in 1080i resoloution or something ? as id be interested to check this, any idea how i can ?
thanks !! -
@ no HDMI though
Well I'm assuming that the Dell Inspiron/Vostros have a VGA output...
