So, I was given an e1705 in May. I happened to notice that Dell's now released the e1720/1. I'm assuming that there's no way I can exchange...? The prices are practically the same for the two (actually, the 1720 is about ten bucks less). :(

What's that saying again? Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Just enjoy your given laptop!

What kind of warranty do you have? If you have accidental damage protection, perhaps the notebook might "fall" off a cliff soon?

Hahaha. No, I didn't get the protection plan along with my laptop. I'll more than likely end up selling this one and come up with the difference.

Such is technology, when you buy a piece of electronics thats the 'latest technology', a few months down the road, or even weeks, and in some cases, days, it'll be 'old'.

Best to keep it if you like it, thats just how it rolls!

Sell it on eBay or whatever, then buy a 1720. Easy enough.

Oh brother, do you know how many people do that with accidental protection, it's almost a given that dell will be replacing all their computers that they put the coverage on.

I got the accidental protection, but never looked into its specifics. I'm not talkign about fraud here. Suppose I actually do break mine on accident. Do they replace it spec for spec? What if it's a part they don't sell anymore, and things like that.

I'm not kidding at all. It's so hard to convey that in text, though.

If your e1705's got the 7900GS, keep it... Upgrade a few months down the line when the 8800M is available as an option... if at all...

Since Dell is trying to get rid of the 1505 and 1705, they are selling them for fairly cheap. You will lose a lot just to have the newer model. If you really think it is worth it, no one can or will stop you.
