I am recieving a new XPS M1210 since my old one has a minor skratch on the side of the touchpad. I asked Dell if they could replace just that part (since i cant stand little details like that (have to work on that :$)). They answered that they couldnt replace that part, but that they could replace the whole system. I thought, oh what the **** why not.
Anyhow now i started thinking. I have no dead pixels on this computer and i am starting to get worried that the new one might have one or more. That would be even worse that the little scratch i have on the touchpad now.
So anyone got a clue of how many (roughly) of the notebooks that are delivered with dead pixels?

I got my Asus notebook about 4 days ago and it came with no dead or stuck pixels.
not too sure about dell...
ive got a dell 1907fp and 2005fpw....both dont have any dead or stuck pixels either...but those are just monitors. -
i have a dell i6400 and have 'funny ones' theya are green

those are stuck pixels...basically the same thing.

You won't notice a few dead pixels here or there unless you look for them.

my last 5 dells, 1 had a single dead pixel. 2 20" lcds at work, and none there as well. I think they are less and less frequent, especially with samsung having a zero dead pixel policy (in Korea only) and other manufactures being expected to weed them out. Frankly, I think ALL lcds should have a zero dead pixel policy, but that would probably raise our price. The technology by now should be close to eliminating them I would think.

A zero dead-pixel policy? For what reason? Do you realize the amount of pixels there are in a display? For example in a wuxga lcd 1920 x 1200 there are close to 7 million pixels. The chance that on every lcd every single pixel be perfect is virtually impossible.
Most companies cannot simply afford to adhere to such a policy. Prices would skyrocket if they did. Dell's currently policy on dead-pixels is replacing units with defective pixels greater than 5. Any less than that and the cant do anything for you -
i had 1 dead pixel and 1 stuck pixel and dell gave me a replacement notebook
didn't even have to fight for it, took about 5 mins total on the phone
new notebook was perfect (wuxga)
bought my dad a 1505 a month or so ago... wxga... no dead or stuck pixels
i personally would not settle for anything less than a perfect LCD -
Well i am glad you were able to get your system repalced. All tech support agents are different. Some might have helped you some might not have. again its more about CE(Customer Experience) than policy.
-
Well im glad there are customers like you that accept mediocrity in electronics that you pay $$ for, because when I complain about my 1 dead pixel, they will be more likely to swap it out for me.
If you spent $5000 on a large LCD TV, would you accept 4 dead pixels? No way I would. Point is, if customers dont demand increased quality, we will always be subject to max dead pixel policies. Obviously in a more competitive market like korea, Samsung found a way to have a Zero pixel policy and they seem to be doing quite well in that market. So don’t just guess that end prices would skyrocket if such a policy were in place. -
I am going to recieve my replacement notebook before they come to pick up my old one. I dont know what to do if there are dead pixels on the replacement since i have none now.
What % of the notebooks have dead pixels?
