What brand components does Dell tend to use in their notebooks? For example, the hdd in my E1505 is a Toshiba and the optical drive is a TSST. Who makes (manufactures) the MB, LCD panel, AC adapter, etc?

Who designs (R&D) the Dell notebooks?

Who tends to be the contractor? Quanta? Compal?

It depends. I believe they use alot of clevo (and some asus it seems) also it depends on the parts. I've had toshiba, fujitsu and hitachi hard drives from dell. IN terms of memory I've had micron/crucial and samsung with dell systems. IN terms of their LCD's I've had hitachi/IBM screens. My batteries are sony.

Generally it is accepted that they will use whatever they can get cheapest rather than go with quality.

I am also interested in this question as well. To add to frnchung's question and otaku's response, does Dell do things differently for their XPS line? Also, does Dell design their own laptop cases/enclosures?
