1) I see that XPS2 and a 9300 have a DVI port. Are there any others? A fantasy of mine is that the 700m would drive a large monitor, but that's a stretch. I really don't want anything bigger than a 15" laptop.
2) Would a VGA connector do OK for 1920 x1200? (I will be running excel spreadsheets)
3) Also, I have a 8200 which has 1600 x 1200 resolution. What would happen if I hooked it up to a 1920 x 1200 LCD through the VGA port? Stretched image? Centered image with black rectangles left and right?

The 9300 I have runs my 23" HP 2335 LCD at 1920 beautifully through the DVI port. Currently, a desktop is running it through its VGA port, since the DVI port supports only LOWER resolutions. They do amazingly well, except sometimes shimmer a bit with very sharp photos or halftoning (like when ou select a photo in i.e.) where ever other pixel is dark. So VGA can be OK, but not great even at that high of resolutions. I'm not sure which laptops support it though. It depends how much video memorey they have and how fast the DAC (digital analog converter) is.

Thanks for the helpful reply fsacj.
I've ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel. Sweet standard price $1200. I will use it with my 15" Apple powerbook which has a DVI port. I will wait until Dell catches up with Apple and supplies a 15" Inspiron with a DVI port before upgrading my old laptop.
I will know the answer to my question number 3 soon. How will a laptop that has a VGA port and outputs at 1600 x 1200, handle a 1920 x 1200 LCD?
What Dell laptop will drive a 1920 x 1200 LCD?
