I recently purchased a used Dell Latitiude D620, On the case it says "Intel Core Duo" on a blue tag, The system Properties under Computer it says,
Itell(R) Core(TM)2 CPU, T7200 @ 2.00 GHZ, 997 MHZ, and to check the bit addressing I go to START, RUN, type in winmsd.exe, then OK, I get the following: Microsoft XP Professional, System type = X86-based PC, processor = x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 GenuineIntel ~1994 Mhz, BIOS version=Dell Inc. A08, SMBIOS version = 2.4.

Can some one please tell me if I have a 32bit machine for 64 bit, it looks as though I have 32 bit, but I thought that T7200 is Core 2 Duo and it should be 64 bits, so why does this one show it is 32 bits, or am I wrong. Thank you.

The T7200 is a 64-bit processor. It is absolutely possible to run a 32-bit version of Windows on a 64-bit processor. That said, you probably don't want to run Windows XP x64 unless you have a real reason.

namaiki, Thank you. So it sounds like my current windows XP is running under 32 bit addressing, and that is why it is showing as x86 rather than x64? so in this case in the future it would be OK to upgrade the current Windows XP to a 64 bit Windows 7 Business, the processor will not have any problems?

Should run without issues, however if RAM is your issue, your laptop (specifically the Intel 945 chipset) physically supports about 3.25-3.5GB RAM max even with a 64-bit version of Windows.
