Hey guys, sorry for the dumb question but I would really like to know. I have the order number and I click it and their are green checkmarks by order proccessing and pre-production and then a green arrow on in production. How do I tell what phase of production its in? When I click on production it just shows me the 4 steps and explains what they are.

Is the only way to find out by phoning? If so, is it toll free and just automated to find out? Thanks for the help, I'm very impatient. I ordered a 9400 and can't wait to start gaming with my 7900GS. Also, I ordered the complete care warranty and altough im 99.99% it wont cover overclocking, I was just wondering. I'm sure it doesn't but I just see a ton of ppl overclocking their 9400's.

Whatever you get online as far as production status is probably all you will get. You just need a bit of patience! :)

Your 9400 will probably go through the production process very quickly (two days max). It’s the “boxing” stage that lasts several days since that is the point where your laptop is transported from Dell’s manufacturing facility in Malaysia to the USA (which is where I’m assuming you’re located).

Unfortunately I'm in Canada so I know it takes a bit longer to ship here. Also, do they assemble and stuff on the weekends, just curious cuz I ordered Friday night and it like instantly did order processing and pre-production but hasn't moved since.

Hey, im in Canada as well. The stage you are currently in is "in production" The next stage is Delivery prep, and then finally shipping
It wont take long to get to the shipping place..probably a day or two, but the shipping part I think takes the longest.
I ordered on the 12th and im in the shipping part. My purolator status says its been "In transit in U.S." since wednesday morning. I doubt it will arrive tomorrow, so probably Tueday for me

Cool man, what part of Canada? Ya, I'm at "in production" right now. Hopefully it'll go to delivery prep soon. It's weird cuz the ppl in the states seem to be able to see exactly what step their at, like building, kitting etc. Thanks for the reply.

Ya, the U.S. have it better than us haha. I wasnt even able to see what stage my order was at till Thursday. It gave me an error every time I tried to see the tracking. I dont even know whether my package is in Texas or the boarder or Toronto. It just says "In transit in U.S." Some kind of info eh haha. I live in Toronto.
This is just my experience. Other people's deliver status time might be diff.

I think most of the laptops are actually assembled in the US for example Nashville, TN. The laptop is actually manufacutured in Malaysia, but shipped to the US un-assembled and sit in trailers until the parts are needed and then pulled from the trailers for assembly. The reason Dell does this is so they can control inventory of parts. When I ordered my E1705 it took 3 days through the entire build and ship process. My laptop came from Nashville where Dell assembles laptops and desktops.

I could be wrong about of this, but this information came from my wife which she found out when she took a tour of the Dell manufacturing facility in Nashville for business.
