I think Ive narrowed down my choices to the Inspiron 1420. I like the size of the 14 inch, and the fact that you can add a separate video card. Ive come to the conclusion it will have all I need in it, and still offer some nice options. I dont really need an XPS, and the coupons on the Inspirons preclude me from getting a Studio.
However, I dont hear much about it on here...can anyone see the flaw in this system?
For around $920.00, I can get...

I like to think you don`t hear alot about the 1420 here because, most people are happy with them. There have been a few complaints but not as many as other models. Maybe I`m totally wrong but I`ve been 100% satisfied with mine. Just my opinion. Your configuration is good, a little more ram than u can use with 32 bit. Good luck with whatever you decide, I`m sure there will be more folks with advice coming along.

Thanks for the opinion. I know the 4 GB of RAM will be 3.5 on the 32-bit machine, but id rather have 3.5 than 3.
I remember hearing about screen graininess, but if i recall, those problems seemed to affect the lower-res screen. -
But in the end, the 1530 won my *heart* over.
Like PD said, I'm sure there will be more 1420's owners coming forward with some great advice for you!
Congrat's on the future arrival!

I was just worried, since I have heard so many things about OTHER laptops, and not much about the 1420. I know its an older model, and I expect it to be replaced soon, but the specs that I have, I should be OK for awhile (actually, pretty good for awhile...)
-
Hey, don't be worried...I think YOU made a great choice..You ordered what you wanted, along with nice specs, etc.
Oh, here is a linky to a thread specific to the 1420!You may want to take a look at it!

Mike, if you haven't already, I would ditch the Nvidia GPU. There has been an issue with those cards and others which would make me seriously think twice.
Other than that, your specs are basically cranked. If you wanted anything more you would have to switch lines! -
Those 1420s are nice machines, thought about getting one myself. I think the reason there isn't a lot of talk about them is, they're kind of long in the tooth, and they're kind of vanilla (in the looks department).
-
My only other option would be integrated graphics, a path i dont want to go down.
What am I missing with this Inspiron 1420?
