    Hi,

I just bought a DELL 1720 - received it on Thursday 4th of October. Today is the 8th of October and I have seen the new 1730's on the Dell website and I would MUCH prefer to pay an extra $700 (I am in Australia) for one of those instead of the 1720.

What are my chances of exchanging my 1720 for a XPS 1730?

What would the procedure be if this is something I could do?

    Kind regards

    Lee

Just return the 1720 and order a 1730, since you don't mind paying the price difference. I don't really see the problem.

I think that Dell would only be able to exchange for the same system, so you're probably looking at a return and re-order. Do it quickly though! :D

Ok great but don't I need to give a "valid" reason for returning the 1720 - I'm just not sure about their returns policy...

In the U.S. at least you have 30 days to return if you're not completely satisfied, no reason needed. Look at the warranty and return information on the papers that came with the laptop.

The 30 day return policy is only Canada/US if I recall. You are going have to check carefully the policy for return in Australia. Did you say your system had a bad squeal? lol

Do it soon! I on the other hand was not as lucky when I bought my M170, the new models came out 20 days after I bought mine, I was just outside the time period to be able to swap back ... I am still so pissed at myself for not finding a forum like this when I bought, but I am also pissed at at Dell for the way they go about it.

For example, the guys on this forum new well ahead via promotional code about the 1730. They could even order it, where the rest of the unlucky buyers went through the regular front end, and was still buying their old model.

So, my next note book will be a cleo with quad cores, just waiting for possible better version of 8700 with wider mem bus to come out. Done with Dell ... :D
