I ordered a laptop on the 31st, I called today and got the current status was that it was in the "kitting stage". What are the steps that it has to go through, and how long is each stage usually?

Since when does delayed come after boxing? Haven't orders been delayed in the build stage?

Well mine was in the build stage yesterday when I called. So I assume the next stage would be boxing and then shipped? I ordered an Inspiron 6400 not a newer model so I'm not sure if it would be delayed..

i thought it was pre-production, building, delaying, still building, still delaying, delaying more, testing, boxing, shipping...but the last one is questionable. i'm not sure if that's part of dell's process.

Im fairly sure it would go, Pre-production, building, delaying (orders get delayed during build stage), testing, boxing, shippied. Once you make it into boxing, your home free as your system is completed.

Without delays the order would go, Pre-production, Kitting, Build, Testing, Boxing, Shipped.

Does anyone know how long testing, boxing stages last? Any chance those could be done by tomorrow, and have it in shipping stage tomorrow? It is currently in the testing stage...

Testing stage tends to last a few hours at most, Boxing stage is anywhere from 1-4 days I here. Boxing involves the shipping of the laptop from Asia to whatever country you are in, and then it gets boxed up and shipped out. Its been 2 days since my laptop hit the boxing stage and it still hasnt shipped, so Im not to sure yours will ship tomorrow.

I ordered an Inspiron 6400 on July 31st.

    Basic Stats:
    Inspiron 6400, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5600 (2MB/1.83GHz/667MHz)
    15.4 Inch TrueLife Wide-screenWXGA, for Inspiron 6400/E1505
    1GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm for Inspiron 6400/E1505
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory, for Inspiron 6400/E1505
120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 6400/E1505
Microsoft Windows XP Home Service Pack 2, English, for Inspiron\

I got a good deal from dealcatcher.com They had a coupon for something like $470 off plus Dell had something else for another $50 off...

I'm hoping that since it is not such a newer model, that it may be faster getting to shipped stage than newer ones, but who knows..

are all these orders going to show on the online order status or do they only really update the automated order status (18004331904)?

My online order status only shows "in production, I have called the automated order status to get what stage it is in so far.

so would you say that the automated status is more reliable than the online order status?

It is surely a more detailed way to see the status of the order.
