Why don't you start by posting what you have on your startup menu in msconfig.

i'm not sure if you are talking about removing programs, or disabling services.

here are my opinions on both:

on bloatware removal- clean vista install is the best. i have tried both ways with my 1520 and categorically say clean install is better.

    disabling startup programs:

i have disabled some startup programs via msconfig. i only work with startup programs here. you don't need to have things like quicktime, adobe acrobat, etc in your startup. a general rule to go by- software is not needed. anything having to do with hardware i leave.

    disabling services:

any service disabling i do with services.msc. i have disabled:

bluetooth support, windows search, windows media center extender service, windows firewall (use zonealarm), windows error reporting service, routing and remote access, problem reports and solutions control panel, net.tcp port sharing service, ip helper, internet connection sharing

i have also turned off the bluetooth in device manager since i don't use it.
