I just received my replacement Vostro 1500 last week. This one is a keeper, so what do I do with my service tag number? Do I enter on Dell's website for some reason? What do I do with it basically, and what is it for? Thanks a lot!

It is a number you use in case your computer craps out on you. With that tag Dell can know exactly what is in your computer purchase dates warranty expirations etc. It is basically your computers identifier.

just like bowler says, you can also use it to list your system specs so they can remember you anytime you log onto dell for drivers/software updates, etc

Thank you guys. Can't I also enter my service tag somewhere to see my specs and everything? Where do I do that? Thanks!
