My PC was shipped with a restore disk. Does this also restore bloatware?

Are you sure it's a restore disc?

I had a restore partition on my hard drive, and a got a clean copy of Windows XP MCE on DVD with no bloatware.

AFAIK, Dell does not ship restore discs anymore. If you just ordered your laptop from dell, most likely it is OEM XP disc. What does the label say on the disc?

The guide will go over everything, but it does need to be updated. If you just bought your laptop - do not delete the media direct partition. This partition will be labeled as Media Direct, so it should be easy to see.

It's a red disk that says operating system. It may be the regular OS install disk.

Yeah that is the OS disc. It will give you a clean system. Its a bit confusing cause it says "already installed on your system", but it is an OEM XP disc.

    True it did.

The ESPN thing was the only thing I noticed. It showed up in Add/Remove Programs and I killed it.

    Grr.

I think that is standard with XP MCE and not a dell problem. Supposedly if you want to get around that, you can cancel or press any key when it is installing applications.
