First thing i would do is get rid of all that crap dell puts on it and do a clean install
    It will run alot better
Theres some guides you can find on here by searching
You can also then decide if you wanna stick with vista or put on XP
    I personally prefer XP

i read that Windows Vista Update won't install Office 2003 updates so you might need to get it from the link above

You will want to first plug it into the mains and then you are good to go, you will need to set up with your details for your account and stuff like that, then your off.

First thing i normally do will be to do a start-up clean-up because i hate slow start ups so i get rid of everything expect windows stuff, power management, wireless, Anti-Virus and Firewall. All else isn't needed really. Then you can just clean up your hard drive, because i know dell will put a lot of bloatware on the machine. There isn't really any need to format straight away as it will obviously be faster than the current computer you have.. so you'll be happy with it I'll bet. Then it's just transfer data and then have your notebook party!

    Cheers guys :D

Adobe pdf should work on vista yeh?

Most of my lecture notes are pdf's and i need them more then anyhing else.

So its relitively easy to reinstall vista, if youve never done a reformat before???
