Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Dell has been one of the easiest, if not the easiest company I've ever dealt with, I actually think they give in to the customer too often most times, hence the abundance of "how to get free smack from dell" threads, "I was on hold for 10 minutes!!!give me gift cards!!!" " they gave me the wrong sticker!!! I want free upgrades for all my core components!!" all those freebies get paid for by someone, and that someone is us, there really isnt any specific thing I hate about dell per say that isnt true of all huge global companies, on that scale quality control is difficult, and if 98% of everything comes out perfect that 2% is going to be a substantial amount of defective units, it just cant be helped, I really hate out sourced tech support, but its better than no support, and I have to say dell support, while it can be frustrating and take multiple attempts, is the easiest by far to get things right in the long run than by anybody elese I've ever dealt with
I like them, and coupled with the incredible deals you can find in the outlet if your paitent enough, they remain my first place to look to regarding laptops, desktops are a different story, I always prefer to just buy parts and build myself in that regard -
I really like dell. They have great products that are at least decent quality for very low prices. I can agree with the free gift cards, I got one and I didnt even ask for one or sound mad!
I really cant say anything bad about dell. -
Thier CS sometimes -
Communications with Overseas Customer Service Reps.
Because of that I use the chat feature and its a hit or miss.
Some can figure out what I need fast and process the request while others have to repeat the freaking questions over and over again.
My last online chat took just over 1 hour to have them process my keyboard replacement request. -
Their customers. What a whinny bunch of complaining pin heads always looking for faults, blaming good engineering, never satisfied with a deal, going on and on.... and on... never a giving us a moments rest. I mean if it is not one thing it another, why I never...oh wait.. Sorry...what I meant to say is they are a fine upstanding bunch of guys.

Sending in a laptop to Out of Warranty Support sans hard drive to have a new hard drive put in and receiving it back with no hard drive and a cute little note that said, "Video wires tightened. Thanks!"

I'm on my fourth Dell in 5 years (Dimension 4300, Inspiron 2650, Dimension E510, Inspiron E1505) all are still running without ever having any problem, even the battery on the four year old 2650 lasts upwards of an hour and a half. Only had to deal with customer support once, due to a lost shipment. Used online support, replacement package was here in three days, no questions asked. I recommend Dell to anyone that asks and my next computer will be a Dell.

my experience with dell has been great so far. the only bad experience i've had with them was when i sent my laptop to the depot to get fixed and they basically did nothing to it and damaged it more than actually fixing it
the phone representative are nice, and they have yet to fail in mailing me the right parts so far. the parts they mail to you come in nice and quick (within a day or two) and dhl has been superb with their pickup schedules when i have to mail back parts back to them. -
The 15% restocking fee and their customer service. Can barely understand what they are saying.
-
That I have to educate and explain things to the reps before they look through their documentation.

LOL -
Overall I am quite happy with my Dell experience. Just one thing, when I call you with a problem don't tell me "well the solution is to reinstall windows" - when it's obviously a hardware issue.
-
Definitely the crapware that comes pre-installed. Just got my 640m and spent a good afternoon cleaning house. McAfee isn't an antivirus, it is a virus! You have to jump through flaming hoops to get rid of that mutha. lol

oversea cs, it is hard to understand sometimes. but over all, I think dell is great. i had got a lot of free stuff from them. (backpack, cd, camera, printer, ....etc)

they offer deals with bonus gifts from time to time, the 15% restocking fee is understandable, you buy it, you use it, and just decide you want something else it becomes a used laptop, they cant sell it as new, they shouldnt take a loss just because the customer didnt do their hoomework before the purchase, and in most cases they waive the restocking fee anyway unless your just trying to get a cash refund

their hardware..i'd say..not so stable like other computer brands..
u gotta replace dis and dat..
but anyhow i hav my one year free complete cover guarantee..so it doesnt really matter! -
My screen would kinda glitch when I was driving an external monitor. I tried 3 different drivers with no success. They never suggested it though, I did it as a last ditch effort to fix the laptop.
My main complaint is that they botch some easy choices on their offerings.
For example, my E1505 should have DVI out, gigE, and at least an option for a slightly better video card, like the X1600.
My Inspiron 5150 was very stable, but that laptop did have some design flaws, and did have to go in for a motherboard replacement. I partly blame the Pentium 4. It was just an awful laptop CPU to have to design for. So hot. Such a big power supply.
Overall, I'll gripe about Dell from time to time, but, I'm still with them.
They are easily the price/performance leaders.
What do you hate about Dell?
