    Just paid for this auction on ebay and was wondering what you guys think of the deal. Also I have a few questions.

    Total including shipping was $1571 US.
    (1) NEW (not refurbished) Dell XPS M1330 Laptop with the following specifications:

    * Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2ghz processor (800mhz FSB, 4MB cache)
    * Windows Vista Home Premium
    * Tuxedo Black color
    * 3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667mhz RAM
    * Slim and Light LED Display with VGA camera
    * 128mb GeForce 8400m GS Video card
    * 160GB SATA 7200RPM Hard drive
    * DVD-RW (dvd and cd burner)
    * Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N wifi card
    * 15months McAfee SecurityCenter
    * 6 cell AND 9 cell battery
    * 4 year warranty
    * 1 year lojack
    * Biometric fingerprint reader
    * Datasafe 10gb online backup for 1 year

    a) Do you guys think this is a good deal? I am purchasing online because in Canada we get hosed from dell. There is no option for the LED backlit light and thin display. I really wanted the best from this machine that I could get. I wish I had the extra bucks for the solid state hard drive.

    b) The warranty can easily be transferred to me. Do you guys think I would have much trouble with Dell regarding the warranty with me living in Canada?

    c) I would like to wipe the system of Vista and install xp pro. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions? I heard of someone doing this and the dvd slot drive didn't work with the dell controls. Would I have to follow specific steps? Is there any online guide to installing xp pro on a M1330?

    d) Anything I should be on the look out for when I get this machine? The pictures of the box show it is unopened.

    e) Does the HDMI upscale?

    That price is almost same to a new unit from DELL.com with current $799 off deal. But if you have no way of ordering from US, then I guess that eBay offer is as good as it gets.

    That's a wicked promotion currently going on for Dell.com. The shame is that Dell hoses Canada via Dell.ca. We don't even get the same options. On top of that our promotions are pretty lame.

    All we got to choose from is ebay. Find a good reseller. I really hope this transaction goes smooth.

    You need to be very wary of the warranty transfer protocol. I got stuck in this rut.

    To do it properly, you need to get the NBD warranty as it is the only transferrable warranty. It canot be completecare with NBD, but rather, NBD only.

    The system must be ordered and delivederd to a us name/us address. Once there that person must make a transfer to Canada stating he is moving or something like that. It must be a credible reason for warranty transfer and they are very particular of this.

    If they suspect you are doing as you are doing, they can simply nix your warranty and i know of one case where this has been done.

    Oh really? Well thank you for the heads up. I know I want to make sure this transaction goes as smooth as possible. I am already excited at saving over $800 on this deal. Thats how much id save if this was purchaseable in Canada.

    Anyone else have any experience with this?

    I would say that in America, that would be an okay deal except for the great XPS offers going on right now.

    However, seeing as you're in Canada, it looks like a great deal as you guys typically get screwed by Dell.

    However, this vendor might get in trouble for exporting outside the United States. I don't know how this will affect you.

    Yeah we do get screwed in Canada. At least the price I am paying for the specs is still cheaper than buying from dell in the US.

    I am not sure about the history of the laptop I am buying, so far it seems like an individual selling something he purchased. But I am not sure yet. Waiting to hear back about how the laptop came to be. I am hoping it goes without issue. He will be shipping it to me as a gift.

    Hope everything goes smoothly for you, as a fellow canukian I completely understand the issues we have with DELL canada. Have spoken to many csr's and none of them can properly justify the differences we are currently seeing in prices for the m1530 and m1330. One guy actually tried to pin it off to shipping costs, then I kinda mentioned that the same configured system in the us is $1000 cheaper!!! He didn't have much to say after that.

    As a canadian, you need to call in and make it clearly know to dell that this type of mismatched priceing is NO LONGER acceptable... the more that complain, the more that things will change.

    Good luck outkastland, please post when you get your new system.

    Hey Thanks,

    I really hope my laptop transaction goes smooth. I am also hoping I do not get hit with a huge duty fee. I am really keeping my fingers crossed on that one and also hoping the warranty transfer goes smooth.

    I will for sure post about it when I get it.

    Yeah I have asked reps as well. They just don't know. I have talked to supervisors and same thing. The main answer i get is supply and demand is different. But the stupid thing is that when you order from dell.ca it is still shipped from California. So that throws that theory out the window. I think it comes down to the dollar. They assume we are stupid and will pay anything.

    Hell looked how ripped Canada gets with cellular fees.
