I just bought an XPS 1530 and in my config I removed the internal bluetooth. I figured I never had a need for bluetooth before and removing it would take away one more thing that could go wrong.
Anyway, I notice most people's signatures with XPS1530 has bluetooth.
What do you use bluetooth for and did I make a mistake removing it?
-
Yes it was a mistake. I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. It is so nice as there is no usb plug adapter. I also use bluetooth for my phone and sync it via Activesync. There are many other uses but those are some big ones.
-
I thought of that, but for me I prefer wired mice and I'm used to using the laptop keyboard. My phone has bluetooth but it can't connect to anything but bluetooth headsets. I figured I can buy a bluetooth adapter if I really needed it one day.
-
Sync my Treo. And use my Treo tethered hack as internet access.
-
I put custom ringtones on my Motorola w/ bluetooth
-
For the $20-25 cost it is well worth it, especially being installed from the factory.
-
Use my cellphone Pocket PC's Bluetooth PAN to access internet, Motorola BT stereo headphones, and my Targus BT mouse all at the same time.
Get BT if you can, it's only like a $20 option. Even if you forget to add it, you can add it later easily. I have it on my 1520 and 1530, couldn't live without it. -
I have used BT a LOT for wireless dial-up connection through my cell phone. Helped me survive a couple years of graveyard shift, lol. I plan on using a BT mouse when I get my M1530.
-
it never hurts to get bluetooth, this laptop would live with you 4 couple of years and u never know what else might work with bluetooth,
in the CES 2008 they showed a bluetooth wireless cell phone charger, they might offer it for other devices. -
Plus you don't have to carry a friggin dongle around!!!!!!!!
Dongles FTL

hmmm... you guys changed my mind.
Is it possible to add the bluetooth option after I placed my order? The status says "In production" now. -
No, you have to cancel and reorder. When did you order? In Production can mean anything from the moment you placed your order till the time it ships.
-
I placed it last night.

I connect my cellphone to the laptop, I have a bluetooth mouse and I use it sometimes to transfer files to the pc's that are close to me.. IMHO cancel and reorder it!
-
I use it to transfer stuff to my mobile phone, transfer files to friends BT enabled lappies, BT headset for Skype and MSN and print to the BT enabled printer at work.
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
I use it for absolutely nothing.
-
Use it to connect my phone (upload update/backup contacts, memos and use it as a remote controller). I prefer the phone as a remote with Bluetooth remote control. Sometimes I also connect a BT headset for Skype.
I still use a Wireless Mouse, but I will upgrade to BT soon, hate always connecting/disconnecting the dongle. -
Now there might be a specific model that you mike like more than a wireless model that you've used, but you cannot dismiss the benefit of wireless over wired. Or you can say that "hey $20 is $20 and I don't have a need for it and I want to save the money." but saying you prefer wired over wireless is just plain silly.
Like most have said, you have no idea what bluetooth will come in handy for in the future. Its come a looooong way in 5 years.
I use my for keyboard, blackberry tethering, mouse, headset and earphones. -
-
I use my laptop BT for syncing my PDA, wireless headset, GPS receiver, and transfering photos from my cell phone. I did not choose the BT option in my order but purchased the refurbished internal Dell 355 module for $11 shipped last month and installed myself.
-
I don't use it at all, have it turned off in the device manager, just as with the fingerprint reader. If only I could claim back for all the 'useful' things that I've not used more than once... headphone jacks (hissing), card reader (sd card pokes out), built in microphones (don't pick up my voice), webcam, HDMI, firewire, bluetooth, fingerprint reader, mediadirect button, wifi catcher.
(yes, i know it's a bit silly, but there are so many things i don't use... which i'm sure many people do.)
-
Whoever said you need to cancel your order doesn't know what they are talking about. Just call them up and tell them you want to make changes to it, they will be glad to do it. As long as it is not in the boxing stage you won't have to cancel your order.
-
That's right, I prefer wired mice. There's no need to change batteries/recharge and I've experienced less problems with them. They always work when you plug them in and response time seems better.
I have decided to get bluetooth because maybe one day I can use it with my phone and the prospect of connecting to another computer with bluetooth seems neat.
Thanks everyone! -
I use my bluetooth for connecting my cell phone to the computer. Also there are bluetooth keyboards and mice that I intend to look into.

Just a few common uses for Bluetooth on a notebook:
1. Tether to your phone for internet access
2. Synchronize with your PDA or smartphone.
3. Use your existing phone Bluetooth headset for VOIP voice comms.
4. Send and receive files to your PDA or smartphone.
5. Run your phone manager (like Nokia PC Suite) without a wire.
Bluetooth is great; most people will want to have it. -
i have no use for it so i didnt get it too.
also i prefer wired mouse, and i dont use anything with bluetooth like cellphone or pda
What do you use bluetooth for?
