What do you use your computer for?

What do you do on your computer? What is your everyday use for your computer in the real world?

 

I play video games, listen to music, go on this forum p), do some photoshop, and like to take it with me.

BTW, I don't own a dell, but I wanted to answer

 

What is this "real world' of which you write?

 

I do

~3d modeling and animation (LightWave & Softimage)
~Web design (Dreamweaver & Photoshop CS2)
~Play games

That's about it.

Anyways, I do HW(typing and research), surfing the web, photo editing with GIMP, media watching/listening, and of course "modding" on NBR(see screen shots in NBR image gallery for proof ). I occasionally play games(mainly web-based like addictinggames.com but on rare occasions Trackmania and Wolf: ET).

1) Internet, e-mail, IM -- your regular online stuff [you-know-what is counted here, right? xD].
2) Schoolwork, your usual .doc and .ppt stuff. Also for research.
3) Games -- online and offline, 3D and flash, etc.
4) Movies, music, pictures, anime -- basically multimedia. All downloadable entertainment.

So yeah. I'm your basic consumer xD; Wish I could say I use Photoshop or I make programs or do anything creative with my computer, but I don't. I'm all about using it for my own, self-benefiting gains.

 

I guess that was mine you edited. Sorry. But unlike d94 I was only kidding. Really!

 

Games, homework, web browsing, soon to be animation and film making. I also enjoy and constantly tweak my system.

 

So...... pretty much everyone use their laptop for the same reasons lol.

 

Well, yeah. Aside from those with specific professional uses, it's pretty much the same for most, if not all users

 

Let's see. I use my m1330 for pretty much everything. I use it for watching television programs (I don't have cable tv currently), all of my school work (ie studying, taking it to class and taking notes), music, office work. Most things I do in my life right now revolve around my notebook in some way.

 

A picture(s) is worth a thousand words right?

Spreadsheet, email and Internet stuff.


Use it as a slide show with a remote when company is over.


Playing games from the comfort of my couch, (before I made a real notebook table).

Aside from the norms, i really just sit on the internet researching and learning new things about computers/networks. Idk, my thirst of knowledge about computers seems never ending.

Escapism..

 

I am almost entirely 'wired' these days. For entertainment, information and productivity. Through this realisation, I disowned myself from conventional desktop computing.

I could justify all the benefits of the digital realm, but what I couldn't justify was being sat arched in a dimly lit corner of the room all the damned time in order to enjoy it.

 

Forum interaction.
C++ coding (Linux, I'm learning about OpenGL for games as a hobby).
BASIC coding (Linux, with gambas2 and Vista with VB 2008 Express).
MS Office integrated solution design and coding (Win 2000 and XP, Office 2000 and 2003 using VMWare machines).
Website coding (PHP), design and management.
Tracking and planning my finances with an app written in BASIC (Linux).
3D Games (XP or Vista x64).
Listening to mp3's and high quality music (FLAC, APE).
Graphic design (Linux with Inkscape, designing company logos).

 

The same for me, except for BASIC coding... instead JAVA..

 

I do the basics...surfing the interwebs, email, IM, office apps. Not so much into gaming anymore Except for the occasional addictinggames.com time suck Also standard movies & music stuff, streaming HD and music to my Xbox360...I'll have to get some pics into jack53's TV/laptop thread.

Ocassionally I'll do some AutoCAD and web editting/photoshop for work...but I try to leave that in the office.

 

Oh, I do some photoshop & lots of internet research on there too, but I have an excellent dvd 1080p hdmi player/recorder, so I don't need the XPS for that.

 

In addition to what everyone else has said, I use my m1330 for molecular modelling; mainly Gaussian, Hyperchem, Chem3D, etc.

 

Play games, surf the web,music,watch movies etc. I mainly got it though for school, in May I start school to be a game designer and programmer and I thought this would be a great Notebook to help me do that.

 

Your new XPS m1530 is PERFECT for that!

 

I'm getting that way. Laptops take up much less space and today are almost as capable as any top of the line desktop. And some of the Dell gaming laptops are even upgradeable.
